I am looking at purchasing a used 2009 Tacoma Access Cab SR5 with 55,000 miles at a Local Toyota Dealership. They are asking $20,500. The passenger side door has some paint scratches that look like someone tried to touch up and did a crappy job and one of the four tires is a completely different tire and the other 3 have less than half tread left. I am going back tomorrow and test drive again. It seems to be in the right price range based on KBB. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thank you for any insight.

You should be able to get better for that price.
Got my 08 TRD OR access cab in mint condition with 39k km for 21k$ last year... And I'm in Canada...

I don't think that's a good price for a truck with cosmetic damage and mismatched tires. You could use that to negotiate the price in your direction, though.

Thank you both for your help. This is my second Toyota but my first Tacoma. I have wanted one for a while but did make sense when I had a daily 100 mile work commute. Anything else I should consider or make sure I check out? I have made a list of basic things I am going to check when I go for my second test drive. Brakes, handling etc. Anything else I should check specific to a Tacoma?

    Thanks again

Check for frame rust since you live in a snowy state. If you read the various threads on frame rust you will learn what to watch out for. Good luck in your Tacoma search!

Hmm, If I asked the dealer to check for frame rust/rot before purchasing it? Would I be better off buying a certified tacoma?

It would be better if you crawled underneath it yourself with a flashlight and inspection mirror, rather than take the dealer's word for it. Check the engine and transmission mounts, cab mounts, and the spots where the leaf spring shackles attach to the frame. Surface rust spots are normal. What you don't want to see is deep rust pitting, cracks or holes. I don't know if "certified" used vehicles are inspected for this. It's in your best interest to check the truck out yourself. You should also make sure 4-Hi and 4-Lo engage/disengage correctly while you're there.

The worst place for rust on the second gen is near the cats.

Did a basic kbb and it came to be around 16500. I think 21 is too high. I have seen brand new access cab 4wd drives here for 24.
