I asked that for my 2016 and was told that no break-in period was needed because it's computer controlled. It behaves differently after the first 500 miles because it was learning driving habits, and not because any components needed a break-in period.

    From the manual:
    ■Breaking in your new Toyota
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
    ●For the first 200 miles (300 km):
    Avoid sudden stops.
    ●For the first 500 miles (800 km):
    Do not tow a trailer.
    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

Think the truck has learned me now & I have it, much better experience than my 1st couple thousand miles, keep that in mind.
Drive it in D for a few miles
Drive in D with ECT switched on
    Drive it in S5
Drive it in S5 with ECT switched on
That'll be a way better test drive than mine had!

Brake hard from 50 to 0 a couple times, don't lock it up, just pretend a light turned red that you were close to going through. Pay attention to any rear vibes while doing this.
Try this again but use the parking brake to make sure the rear drums aren't jacked like mine were from the factory.

Check the seam sealant underneath the hood between the actual hood and bracing, a lot of hoods seem to vibrate due to poor sealant jobs on trucks without scoops.

The speakers are pretty much garbage in all of them, you'll probably want to replace them no matter what audio option you buy

Oh, and of you love it & buy it, at the last minute ask them to throw in a bed mat! Door sills & window tint too if you wanna push your luck ;)

    All the best!!!

19 OR with around 4k on it. No issues or gripes for me. The gearing (transmission and differential) probably could be better but it still does everything I need it to do. If I could do it all over again I would have the same truck that's in my driveway.

    Good luck!

Did you read the posts in those threads though? The dude with the diff leak said he had 181k miles on his 2019... that doesn't make any sense. Also, the truck in the pic looked way older than a 2019. Something ain't right.

The transmission doesn't appear to be leaking transmission fluid in the other one as tranny fluid is red, not amber.

The leak from the dash appears to be a weird one-off issue, not a widespread problem.

The deceleration vibration and rear diff howling still plague the 2019s. Mine has both issues. If you do enough research you will see plenty examples of other 2019 owners with them as well.

That said, based on everything I have read, I am confident that these two particular issues are merely design quirks, and not problems that jeopardize reliability or longevity.

I have a 19, you just have to get use to the way she drives. I have had no issue's and it will get up and go when it is needed. That said I get around 19 MPG which for stop and go traffic is not bad at all.

Button that changes the shift points to something "sportier." It's a computer-controlled performance mode.

I personally don't use it, finding that the same effect can be had by liberal application of the right pedal.

Technically I think it stands for electronically control transmission but that really doesn't make much sense since it is electronically controlled no matter what mode you have it in. Any, with ECT activated the shift points are adjusted to give a lot more acceleration. The gears hold a tad longer and allow the engine to get closer to peak torque before shifting. It is very noticeable both in g force and sound. A must when towing. I'm not sure how much improvement there is at highway speeds though.

Thank you. Ok this is similar to the Sport mode in the Mazda 3 I had that kept the rpms higher for a more sport oriented feel. I'll definitely test that later today.
