I recently found a 96 taco and the guy wants $3,000. The truck is stock with road tires. He has never done anything to it besides regular maintenance and he just replaced all the ball joints. 4X4, A/C and cruise all works like a champ. Its in good condition, no big dents, carpet could be taken out.. He said out of the last year 4X4 has been used 3 times maybe..The only problem is the clutch is going out...He said its a daily driver for work and back. Do yall think this is a good deal? It is my first taco.

Talk the price down for the clutch, ask him about maintenance too like the last time he replaced the belts and such

^^This is important. Also is it reg cab or ext cab? That normally constitutes a big price diff.

With that many miles check things like rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, and rack and pinion so you can get an idea if any maintenance will be needed right away.

High miles isn't always a bad thing. I bought my truck with 222k on it..

Well it's an extended cab with the v6 in it. How much is a clutch for these things?

considering that it was his daily driver, and he's selling it when the clutch is going out might give you an idea of his attitude towards spending money on it. At this mileage, there is likely a lot of wear on suspension components that will need attention for it to drive nice and not chew through tires. I would need full records of all work done on the truck to buy it. Ask him when/if he's replaced the upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, steering rack, wheel bearings, brake pads, brake fluid, coolant, belts, hoses, timing belt, VALVE ADJUSTMENT, greased the slip yokes and u joints, changed the transfer case, diff, and trans fluids, shocks, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if it was someone who kept their vehicle in top shape, but I would not buy a vehicle from someone trying to stretch their dollars by driving it in to the ground.

If you do it yourself I think its around 200 or 300 but if you have it done somewhere its anywhere from 5-800, depends on where you go

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
$800 or buy something else. Don't be afraid to walk. He's not doing you any favors.

Ok I asked him about the maintenance...hopefully he replies positively...he said he got a new truck and no longer needs this one...only reason I haven't walked, is because I can't afford any other 96 at this price...If I wait, it could be next hunting season before I got one and I need it this season...
