Hey guys, relatively new to the forum however, I have been waiting to purchase a Tacoma for a while and been doing a decent amount of research.

I just saw I good deal on a 2014 TRD sport manual pop up at a local dealership. The truck also has a 3 inch lift with Blistein (not sure if I said that right) shocks and just under 100 000 kms (62000 miles).

I have two questions I was hoping I could get some help with.

    1. With regards to the shocks, assuming they were installed relatively early, would I need to tune/do maintenance on them or replace them at 100k kms?

    2. Are the 2014s just as prone to the throw out bearing issue? Approximately when does a throw out bearing go (I know lots of variables) on average?

Just want to make sure I don't end up with a lot of maintenance and extra expense after the purchase.

    Thank you so much

I would just check the shocks to make sure they're in good shape. They should be inspected every 12k miles and probably has a 50K to 70k mile life. Shocks are cheap so I wouldn't make that the determining factor in buying the truck you want.
I think the throw out bearing issue affected the 2011 and earlier trucks, although someone can correct me on that.
Hope the truck checks out for you. Get it looked at. Drive it. Check the frame.

With 3in lift I would be more concerned about ball joints, tires, alignment, CV joints, drive line vibration, and off road abuse more than anything else. The shocks you will likely get a couple more years out of but like he^ said, they're cheap. My '13 is still on original clutch and thrust bearing with about 170000km on it and no issues, but that doesn't mean none of them have issues. If that truck has larger tires on, guessing it does with 3in lift, then that puts more stress on the clutch and even more so if it was used off road frequently. Bottom line though is that clutch, shocks, and the like are all maintenance items you will have to replace eventually anyway and on a Tacoma they're all relatively cheap items so I wouldn't let that influence your decision too much over the big things like frame rust, mileage, and overall condition of the truck. Good luck on the Taco hunting, post some pics of the truck in question if you can.

Pay to have a PRO inspect the truck before you buy it,or inspect it yourself.
