Buying some 17x8.5 octane rims along with some 265/70r17 MT2s.

Will the setup work? (no lift)

It looks like the rims come in 2 different offsets. A 14 and -5. Which ones should I get?

I'm no expert but an 8.5" wide wheel seems a bit wide for 265s. People even say an 8" is a bit wide for them, max width for many 265/75-16s at least.

Based on the tire size they "should" fit with no lift because they are very similar in size to the 265/75-16s and 235/85-16s. These seem to be the max size for no lift while avoiding any rub, especially for stock wheels.

As far as offset, a -5 would allow you to run a wider tire (pushes the wheel out from the truck more), but I think the +14 would do the same compared to stock wheels, just not as extreme. From everything I've read on tire sizes and suspension recently, stock wheels should do the job, you shouldn't have any issue with stock wheels, see previous paragraph. I hope that helps somehow.

I cant find any XD or Fuel rims that i like with 7.5 or 7" width thats why am wondering what the width do. Will it rub or not. The stock tacoma rims are 14 offset, so if I buy the Fuel rims, only difference
Will be the width. And since the width is bigger, am thinking I need to get the -4 so it doesnt rub on turns?

    This tire? http://www.procompusa.com/prodDetai...5&catID=13&subCat=157&ptID=101549&plID=109194

They don't give wheel specs but I decided to check another popular tire for you in that size for a wheel spec. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...KM2RWLV2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

That shows 7-8.5" wide wheel, measured at 8" so you should be okay but the wheel will be more vulnerable to contact/damage. The ProComp shows it being a bit taller, 0.2", compared to similar sized models. As always, every tire model is a little different. If the ProComp is the MT2 you're getting, you MIGHT experience rub but it SHOULDN'T even with stock wheels.

What are your stock wheel specs? Do you have the TRD Sport? I know the SR5 and TRD Offroad have something like +30mm offset, maybe even high 30s. That is on 16x7" wheels though, a 17x8.5" with +14mm offset would still be pushed out about 0.5" compared to those. If you have 17x8" wheels stock with +14 you'll lose about 1/4" clearance with the new wheels at +14. Going to the -4 would push you out about 1/2" which SHOULD work fine.

    Hmm, I'm a little worried, the guy I ordered my wheels from (America's tire) said -6 in a 8.5" and a -12 in a 9" wide wheel was what I wanted. I went with a -12, 17 X 9. Is this wrong?

What did you start with? What size tires are you upgrading to? You'll have ~4" of backspacing with the new wheels. That's a little more than 1" less than the stock 16" wheels from the 2005, I'm not sure if they changed anything with wheels for the 2012? minor changes. This means the wheels are pushed out a little more than 1" compared to the stock 16" which gives more clearance from suspension parts and the frame. The only issue this could bring is if it's pushed out too far the tire may contact the fender rather than tuck into the wheel well.

Based off build threads, 4.5" of backspacing works fine with a 3" lift and 33x10.5 tires. 4" of backspacing would allow you to get away with a wider tire, maybe, depending on the fender issue mentioned. Your 9" wide wheel means the smallest you can go is 285. A 285/70-17 is almost 33x11.5". A 32x10.5" will fit no lift with no trimming, well the metric equivalent of 265/75-16. Based off the wheel you shouldn't rub because of width with a 285/70-17. Height I can't speak on, I don't know your suspension and haven't seen any 17" wheel build threads.

    I'm running 255/75/17s on a 17x9, -12 offset wheel with no issues.

The -12 is what you need if you think there is even a chance that you will go with 285s, otherwise you may have clearance issues with the UCAs and have to end up getting spacers.

I have the TRD Sport double cab. The stock rims are 17x7.5 which are 14 offset based on dealer info, with 265/65r17 tires.

So new rims will be 17x8.5 which is an inch difference.

So youre saying to go for the -4 offset for the mt2s?

You do have a lift though. I like your tires.. Did you get it before the lift or after?

I'm running 5100s @1.75. You could run that size tire with a factory offset without issue. It's really close to a 265/70/17 in size. With a 4.5 backspace wheel it seems to be hit or miss when it comes to rubbing.

You will probably have to remove your mudflaps either way.

255 on a 9" width wheel? Do you ever air down? How low do you go? Personally I'd be very concerned dropping to 15 psi with that setup and flexing the tire so much. Debeading is never fun.

So I was looking at your build, what rim offset would i need for a 17x9? Thats a 1.5" difference in width

On a 9" wheel a +12 offset is going to be the same as the stock Sport wheels.

If you aren't going to run a lift and won't ever go with a 285 tire I'd recommend a 0 offset. It will give you a little bit wider stance and should clear fine.

With a -12 offset there is a chance you are going to rub the fenders (it shouldn't be major) if you don't have a lift. If you don't mind doing a little trimming and think that you may go with 285s some time down the road this would be the way to go. Even with my setup I had to remove my mudflaps (including the small flap at the front)

I've aired down to 20psi with no issues. I was skeptical, but my friend owns a tire shop and assured me that I wouldn't have any issues and that the Trail Grapplers could be run on a 9" wheel. The website says 8.5, but, sure enough, when my tires came in the sticker on the tires said that they were rated for 7-9.

All of the offloading I do is on power lines, old logging roads, and woods trails. I don't do any rock crawling or sand so I don't ever need to air down lowers than 20-25psi. Most of the time I don't air down at all.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, to get the 17x9 i would need them to be -12 offset and they should fit fine with some 255/75s as long as mud flaps are removed on a non lifted truck? If so, im going to the shop today.. :)

Good deal. I didn't see your other post. If you had any rubbing, it wouldn't be much and it would probably only be at full lock with some flexing. It would only take minor trimming (not even enough to be seen if you didn't know it was there) to have full clearance.

If I do end up rubbing a little bit, will a 1 inch spacer fix the issue?

Wheel spacers? If so they would make it worse. The only reason that that size would rub is that as you move the wheel out you lose some clearance at full lock.
