Anyone with more info on how these evap systems work would know what is going on?

2019 Mazda CX-5 2.5l, around 96k miles. Got a CEL indicating running rich and another lean. While idling the engine rpms surge from 1.5-2.5k. Car seems to drive fine, but may be suffering poor fuel economy.

We saw a yt video showing if you tap the purge valve solenoid it would 'unstick' it. We did that and immediately the engine idled properly, but the issue returned a week later and even though tapping it would solve the issue for a small time it would come back quicker and quicker.

Decided with how easy the part was to replace to go ahead and replace it assuming it had failed. New purge valve was good for around 2k miles and then the same issue happened. Warrantied out the part and the 2nd replacement lasted around the same amount of time... No idea why they solve the issue for a short time??

My only thought is maybe the charcoal canister has been saturated with raw fuel and causing trash to flow into the purge valve, but I'm not even sure that is possible or how to verify that. I'm about ready to take it to the shop for a proper diag, but wondered if anyone had any ideas? I wouldn't think any other sensor would cause the purge to not function properly... maybe an o2? surely not the MAF... I'm going to try spraying brake clean through out the engine bay to verify no evap leaks, but we haven't gotten an evap code except when she forgot to tighten the fuel cap once.

    TIA!
