This may have already been asked, but does your system work with the automatics? (In the video you were pushing the clutch) If so, how much for the inclusive kit for a First Generation 2004 Tacoma Automatic 2.7L and how difficult is it to wire?

I'm gonna make a thread over on T4R (.org) and see if anyone local for you would be interested in this. I'd like to see a kit for the 3rd gen 4Runners and for the price I don't see it being a problem selling. The community over there is huge.

Wow... I've ALWAYS wanted push-button start on my truck, just never thought it would actually be possible!

Reading, reading reading... I saw this:

So are you close to working all of this out? It seems like you're not... Is this phase3 or am I missing something?

Even if my key had to be in my pocket, that's fine. I don't even really care about the doors locking/unlocking (would be freakin cool tho :p), I just really want to be able to unlock the truck, hop in, and hit a start button.

Oh laziness, how expensive you are...

Edit - where are you 4x4 guys planning on putting this button? The blank spot for prerunner/xrunner guys is perfect, but I have this silly 4wd switch there :p

Sounds like this would work like my Prius keys... I walk up to the car and voila, the car unlocks, then I sit in the driver's seat and push the "Power" button and it works yet again...

As I understand it, this is "phase 3" - which the OP is still researching. Phase 2 is done - you can start the truck w/o a physical key, but the truck doesn't unlock or recognize a fob - which is kind of a security risk (which others have addressed).

Would LOVE to see a final product finished up to the phase 3 level, but honestly phase 2 is still pretty sweet. I'd just want some way to disable the system since it can't really sense if I'm starting the truck or not :/ (seems the OP has a solution for this as well :spy:)

Just thinking out loud here. Are there any Lexus/Toyota vehicles that currently have what you're looking to do in phase 3? would it be possible to piggyback on some those pieces/parts?

For the start button can we use any button we like or is there something special with these "start" buttons?

Also, for the bypass module, does that actualy make it so the vehicle will start with out the chip near the cylinder? isn't that a safety concern?

I would love for the biometrics to work, but if they are anything like the biometrics i've used with computers, then NO WAY! Most of the biometrics i've seen require me to swipe my finger several times or are very slow in the recognition of the finger print. I like the security behind it but it needs to work fast and flawlessly. I don't want to be stuck because my vehicle won't read my fingerprint.

I don't think that you are comparing apples to apples... The el cheapo "biometric scanners" built into laptops are far below the quality of the $500 unit on Amazon.com... Those are probably $35-$50 scanners that are in the laptops you are using...

I thought about the cup holder but I have a habit of throwing random crap in the cup holder while I am driving and when I get back in the car I dont feel like diging everything out to start it. I thought about by the shifter or getting a custom shifter with a pushbutton built in. I am looking for something more stealthy and inconspicuous.

Thats what i'm hoping for, but still skeptical. I would only do it if i knew it was going to work consistently. My laptop is about 2 years old and the finger print scanner thing is terrible. It may not be apples to apples, but it still makes me a little concerned.
