I like it my miata, although it's not push button, they automatic keyless entry, leave key in pocket push button on door to unlock, and you turn the knob thing, so you still have the keylike feed back, without having to pull a key out, and if your battery dies, you pull the cover off the knob and insert real key

Screw that! That's one of the reasons I want push button start! I make a lot of quick stops. I'd love to be able to leave my engine running while I grab a coffee without having to worry about it being stolen.

Ever think about the pets that die when the owners leave them in sweltering cars? Push button start would allow them to start the car, walk away, and lock it while they shop. Fido is sitting in A/C and you're vehicle is locked with no key in the ignition.

I wouldn't be opposed to having it be a configurable option, though. Even if the default was your method.

    Its not the same.
Key fob makes car stealing extremely easy, almost like leaving car keys in your car. People who opt for that convenience should pay higher insurance premium or be refused to be payed when car is stolen (just like now insurance can refuse payout if you leave your car keys in.)

There is almost no security to key fob why not simply order car with no alarm and no locks? now that would be even more convenient.

I've driven a push-button start e90 M3 for four years now and it would honestly be tough to go back. One of those things you don't realize how awesome it is until you get used to it. With the key never leaving my pocket, I can unlock the door by simply grabbing the handle and get in and push the button to start. I can then lock the door by touching the handle. Also, depending on what key is in the pocket, the drivers seat and side mirrors adjust to the preset. So nice.

As if the keyed ignition vehicles are hard to steal. If a good thief wants your vehicle, its gone.

Some are posting as if older vehicles are harder to take than the new ones. imo, that is not the case.

Great, now morons are going to do this with their kids/babies in the car.

Leaving your car running for long periods causing excess pollution for a pet is beyond silly to me. Crack a window or leave Fido at home. It's a dog, not princess Dianna.

I agree with above. I always find it hilarious when I see a story about someone that had their car stolen, and in reading on you see that it was because they left the keys in it with the car running. What did you think was going to happen??

If people would pay more attention when they are driving, parking and leaving the vehicle, their would be little to no issue with the push start.

imo, some people are so easily distracted with other things when driving, parking and leaving a vehicle.

I second this. I'm kind of OCD with my shut down procedure with the car. Everything has to be in it's neutral position (A/C or heat off, lights off, parking brake on, etc). before I turn off the engine. This way, when I get back in, everything is ready back as I might need it. Crazy overkill for most people, but it's just a habit I got into. I don't understand when people just leave with lights on, keys in, all that sort of thing.

I have the exact same routine. Have never locked my keys in a car as a result. Boggles my mind when people do that.

With push button start you have a proximity key fob, which means you have to be within so many inches to lock or unlock but you cannot start the vehicle unless the fob is inside the cars proximity (inside the doors). Just because you are standing by it and it's unlocked, someone can't jump into the car and start it unless the fob is in the car. Oh and I have known people that didn't want to put the fob in their pocket so they put it in the console. That's great if you want to give a stranger your vehicle.

    The better coast
What if we don't want a push start because we prefer a standard key and enjoy the feeling starting your vehicle that way?

How come everyone HAS to have this feature?

Seems like when some new piece of technology comes out it's a "with us or against us" mentality instead of a buy it if you want it because it's your money.

It's usually a people issue. Like how people "forget" their kids or dog is in the car.

My civic will lock the doors after 15 seconds. As mentioned it's not a key issue it's a vehicle security feature.

This is a wife issue not a car issue....

You can't lock the doors from the outside with the fob inside the car so how is that giving it to a stranger?
    Are you talking Carjacking?

I agree. People are also making the push button start akin to the development of personal computers or heck key starters. Not an adequate comparison at all.
What problem did push button starts solve?
None. It's just a cool feature.
I can tell you it created a hell of a lot of problems though. Now I have to carry around a really bulky set of keys while in my car. Of which I hate doing that. Now I can chose to put them in a cup holder but now they'll probably get left there on accident.
What about remote starters? Can you not have those now with the push button fabs?

I like to control my truck and not have my truck control me. I like that when someone needs to go get something in my truck I can unlock it, keep my keys and they tun out and get it. Because they is usually my neice or nephew that will lose my daggum keys if allowed to touch em lol.

If it's raining and someone wants to run ahead of me and get in, oh we can't do that anymore. Hell my husband can't even unlock the passenger side if I have the fucking key on my side and my hands are full. I about lost my mind on that POS Nissan rental.

There was nothing broken about key starts. Unfortunately you screw a lot of things up when you try fixing what isn't broken.

    Um...it's a Prius. No mods.
You can still do all of these things. And the key is less bulky than a traditional key. I've had push button start and smart key entry on my 07 Prius since 2006. It's a great feature.

What problem did it solve? Didn't GM have an ignition key problem and law suits? Push button would solve their issue.

Toyota doesn't have many problems with either a key or smart key. Most of the people that have opposition of it don't know how it works and can only speculate. Car thefts are going to happen no matter how you are starting a vehicle.

Every rental I had that had push button start also had remote start. I honestly thought the two went hand-in-hand until i heard the 2016 Tacoma wasn't going to have factory remote start.
