You shouldn't have kids in the front seat till they are 12 at least. At that age if they are still pressing random buttons as you drive then that's a parenting issue.

I thought push button start was a gimmick too until I had it on a car. It's nice to just sit in the car and press a button to start it. No fishing for keys in your pocket at all.

    I was messing around.
But kind of a cool article nonetheless.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday from another site I'm on and posted it in a forum on here. Then watched a few guys post it elsewhere on here and start a few threads. That could be a disaster for the Crysler/Fiat group once those two release the how to hack a jeep with UConnect instructions. Sounds like they have a fix BUT it has to be done by the dealer so lots of vehicles won't have it when the hack is released. Given that a few reputable people I know in IT have said that there is a way to find which Sprint SIM's are connected to Crysler vehicles, I wouldn't want to know my family owned anything from that brand.

GM will be next, since their entire fleet is now cell-enabled. Kinda makes me happy that Toyota isn't so quick to adopt some new technology until after it's really been tested.

I test this on the fiance nissan murano from time to time. She leaves the fob in her purse and I drive. As far as I can tell her purse has to actually be inside the cabin before it works. If she is standing at the door but doesn't get in, tbe car will not start.

I like the push button. In fact it's the only feature in tbe 3rd gen that I really want. I would pay the premium over a 2ND gen to get it too.Wireless charging would be cool but not required. If fuel economy isn't a big improvement I may go with a used2015....although a DCLB OR would be nice...

    Yup.

In general when Ford doesn't jump on something like internet in a car right away they have there reasons. Same with Toyota. Goes to show who is hiring the best engineers right now.

Push button start is fairly safe though in comparison. You're just as likely to let someone into your car because you left your keys at the grocery store counter for a minute as you are that someone will hack your push start.

I heard they are going to be available on the TRD and Limited Automatics - no keyless for the Manual (which is my preference) and it sucks

I would think that an electronic device would have less chance of breaking than an old fashioned key in ignition

they both haven an equal chance of breaking. switch contacts or key rounding are usually the main culprits of each.

Have had the push button start on a Camry(was an option on Camry at the time) Prius and Avalon. All worked great. Was hoping it would at least be an option for the Tacoma and was excited to hear that it was going to get it. Hate using keys for my pickup. Once you're used to it, keys are a pain.

No reason it will not be available on manuals. Lexus and lots of others do it.
    Heard from where/Whom?

According to the order guide, the autos get it the manuals don't.
