I bought the sport. I like the look of the hood, but I do have concerns about how much it shakes / vibrates. It is also a pain when you wash it, because it holds water in all the cracks and seams. I am not a huge fan of the wheels either. I hate the aluminum trim around the outside, but that is just me. I could have done without the sunroof. As I have stated before mine leaks when I run through the car wash. I love the truck overall. I do not think you will go wrong either way. Good Luck!

If you live in SD, and travel into the desert or mountains, why are you excluding the 4x4. for what youre looking at and if this is a keep for a long time truck, get an OR 4x4 and call it good. Who knows when you'll decide to travel to the Great White North and want 4x4!

Sport looks handsome, swap the wheels out though. The SR5’s are a poor value play. Somehow paying $40k+ for a ‘24 SR5 still leaves you feeling like you’re sitting in a Mitsubishi Mirage. Toyota can mostly fix that on the configurator, and hopefully they do in ‘25 and beyond.

There are currently more Tacomas sitting on lots than I’ve ever seen. Insert whatever commentary on that fact that you’d like, but from a practical standpoint, rather than committing to numbers on anything still being built, why not just walk the lots, play the dealers, get a deeper discount, and drive it home this weekend?

    $42,8xx for a 2WD sport??? Hell no.

I paid 1k under window sticker out the door taxes included. DCSB OF 4X with 14” screen and heat seats. But I shopped hard this summer… And I usually buy at the end of the year if I can, more inventory and less buyers during Xmas time.

SR or SR5 and I want an Xtracab, I don't want to pay 40k for a Tacoma. Which leaves the Rwd SR XC.

You can’t compare your truck pricing to what I’m looking to get, doesn’t sound like you have the upgrade package…
You’re trying to make it sound like you got a much better deal on your scenario versus what they’re offering me, which it is not…
This guys are giving me an unheard of deal on a vehicle that isn’t even here yet, all other dealers really aren’t negotiating much on allocated vehicles.
Yes, I’m able to get about $3200 off on an allocated truck that isn’t on the lot yet.
Out of almost a dozen Toyota dealers within, so-cal’ish California, nobody really has what I’m looking for at the moment…

But... the fact is, a 2WD will have a significantly lower value at trade-in or re-sale than a 4WD.

Not trying to be Mr jones, I don’t re-sell, or trade-in cuz I have to have the next latest & greatest…
Still have my 00 expedition I bought new, Son will be beating that up soon…
    Keep them long term…
In my 36 years of driving, I’ve never needed 4wd as of yet…

we can also argue the fact that the sport would have better resale than the SR5, but really irrelevant also

$42k for a 2WD sport is not a “unheard of deal”…. That’s just a regular deal. when I was shopping, I was shopping all along the west coast, I rember finding some deals in the Bay Area.

The upgrade package is rear window and leather seats? I just wanted the bigger screen. Sounds like you want a 2WD with a tech pack… You might as well get a spend a little more and get a 4WD that’s def more desirable when it comes to holding value and resell. You would have a lot of options on your truck but missing one highly sought item.

What’s the window sticker on this truck?

The window sticker MSRP is clearly stated in my post…
    $47,284…
Your off-road is a base model w/ 14”, doesn’t even have safety / crash prevention sensors in the bumpers….
You want to bash but yet you don’t even know what an upgrade package consists of…
Yes, better deals can be had but not on a vehicle that isn’t even at the dealership yet. You’re lucky to get 3K off on an allocated vehicle, I’m getting $4400 off on a vehicle that isn’t even been built yet. That’s an accomplishment.
They’re negotiating far less on allocated vehicles that aren’t on the lot yet.
Yes, I am able to negotiate a lower price on a truck that’s been sitting on the lot, none of them equipped the way I want or the color I want,
I’ve been looking at almost a dozen dealers throughout California at the moment…

Honestly ill add a run on sentence….buy what you like and can afford, i wouldnt buy a truck unless it was 4 wheel drive, i need it some dont.
TO BUY A TRUCK AND LIFT AND PUT BIG TIRES ON IT , TO ME IS A GOOD LAUGH , AGAIN TO EACH HIS OWN…..
THE debate betwqeen sport or off road , is somthing i asked …sport looks cool with the scoop and 18 inch wheels, off road suspention talks……street/ road… ofton outdoors off road….. for me TRD- offroad……..but buying a truck , moding it to look like a 4x4 …with tires and wheels is kind of funny , and a waste

I'd go for waiting several months and getting a 2025. Maybe by then you will quit flip-flopping about which grade you want, SR5 vs Sport.

    Aftermarket wheels...that's it.
The hood on the Sport "waves" at freeway speeds? Uh...hell NO!
Sunroof? It'll leak. Or break. Or both. Totally unneeded.
Power seats? Nice, but just more motors & electronics to deal with when the seat doesn't move one day. Simple is better if you are thinking "keep this vehicle for 20 years".

When it comes to trucks, I'm a Luddite. Less electronic crap is 'more better' (people on the Big Island taught me that.)

You gotta do you. In your heart you are secretly liking one truck better than the other. Buy it, or you'll always have regrets. Don't think "money". Think "which one do i really want in my driveway?"

And if you can't decide THAT, don't spend money on anything yet. You'll just be unhappy and looking for a replacement sooner than later.

I'm not sure WTH is going on at Toyota, but my SR5 has a full size spare o_O

It does have the Upgrade+Cold Weather options package, so I'm not sure if there's some secret lingo in there for a full size spare. Also, oddly enough the tire on the spare is a Toyo, but the tires on the truck are Firestone's. 1/2024 build date.

I think the OP keeps their vehicle a long time, so resale would not be an issue. Also being in California it is a non-issue with 2WD's and resale as most are riding around in 2WD's. If we're talking about my part of the country, then yea not being 4WD takes a massive hit.

And I'll probably catch shit for that post too. Now, personally having a 2WD and trying to drive it up and down a snowy mountain a couple times I won't do that again, however, I respect someone's truck decision. I lived in the Deep South for a while and not once did I need 4WD.

Having said that, on the other coast here my dealer is doing almost $5,000 off on SR5's (All 4WD's because Northeast). Most only have the heated seats option, but still not bad. I should have waited, but noooo I had to be one of the first to get one in the area :crapstorm:

    Good info!!!
Ill NEVER use the 4wd, are there hills & trails that I could find in san diego? Sure...
The dessert, & isolated trails, but not a pass-time for me.
Just more maintenance , front diff, front hubs, cv shafts joints / boots, transfer case, etc..
Im able to negotiate $4600 off any truck on the lot here in san diego...
My old employer is cliaming im getting employee pricing which is $1500 below invoice / $4400 below msrp..
Will I try & get more off once truck gets here, sure....
Ive called lots of dealers out here & theyre definetely less negotiable on allocated trucks.
theres lots of trucks on lots, but nothing im really interested in....

Think im just going with the Sport, thats the direction im leaning.
But I get it, has some shit I really didnt want, moon roof, not a fan of the wheels but can replace or maybe they'll grow on me, I like the look of the 1 piece flare & fender on the sr5, but thats just me splitting hairs...
