Strange, I took delivery on 2/19/24 so also an early SR5 4X4 build. I do remember hearing some rumors about a somewhat chaotic start-up at the new assembly line in Mexico. When I objected to Toyota about the donut Goodyear spare, they responded that since it was the same outside diameter it was therefore "full size". (I got the dealer to make it a real full size spare after a few discussions.)

Since Toyota doesn't do custom build sheets for the trucks, its pretty hard to find the "perfect" truck. I got close with my SR5, but I really would have liked to have a power seat for the driver, but that wasn't even offered in the SR5 trim level, even with the SR5 Upgrade + Cold Weather package my truck came with. So far, I'm living with the manual seat okay thanks to the power lumbar trim, even with my bad lower back.

When I was shopping, I had a limited list of 'must-haves': 4WD, Double Cab, 6' bed, heated seats, integrated brake controller, and... the lowest price I could find. Everything else beyond that was a 'nice to have'. My SR5 fit the bill with some nice discounts from the dealer and Smartpath.
I would not have bought a truck with a sunroof however. I'm taller, and find that they eat up some headroom and I never use them (plus I don't want the risk of them leaking up here in the PNW).

Now, if Toyota offers the hybrid on a model with the 6' bed besides the Trailhunter trim, I may be tempted to upgrade some year in the future...

probably right, but was perfectly happy with the sr5 upgrade also.
Not looking forward to the conversation with the other dealer...

Just hope I dont regret the hood, the flares, the wheels, etc..:D
As you can tell, I dont like spending money..

Also just found-out my wescott 2wd sr5 lift wont work on the sport so need to ship it back & re-order...
I asked the question months ago & turns out the guy who said it will work, is nolonger with them...
    :frusty:
No big deal, it is what it is, took forever to get that lift...
    Ive waited this long!!
Maybe Ill go with peak suspension lift instead, baby steps..
I do like the fact that the collar lift does tighten-up the suspension some, get rid of some more of that body-roll...

All Tacomas hold value and if you get one you don't really like it can be traded in.

I was thinking about getting a RWD AC, they same easier to find than the 4x4. Just to see if I like the truck I like having 4wd and the SR does not have a rear locker. Maybe trade the Rwd for a 4x4 or get another 4x4 Awd vehicle later down the road.

I think you should just keep flip flopping with the dealer until they make you an even better offer just to get rid of you

Like get them all hot and bothered ready to close the deal and then ask to look at a Rav4!

Then go back to the Tacoma, but second guess the color.

Then ask to drive a manual, and then a hybrid.

Then tell them your wife is coming and bringing the dog to make sure the dog can jump in -because thats important.

Make the whole thing hinge on the dog!

Dont forget to constantly remind them about your 2000 Expedition

They will knock off another $5k

2 months later, show back up saying you think you need a 4x4

    Be nice, I have a feeling....:D
My local dealer wont dealer trade anything else for me, cuz theyre VERY afraid im going to decline the purchase due to the paint...
& their future allocation vehicles are at a stall right now, their data base shows nothing, maybe an indication of the 25's....

My world keeps spinning, the latest...
Had the conversation with the dealer that I put the down payment on this morning....
    Said I wanted a sport...
He found one allocated to come in on the 6th, that is almost $300 cheaper than what my previous employer has locked in for me...
So truck is $300 cheaper & theyre giving me $4500 off msrp...
Maybe I can squeeze more out of them when truck gets here, maybe...
Bonus part is dont have to drive 2.5 hours to get there like the original sport.

If you bring the dog into it, you'll get a better deal.

Ask them if they are dog owners, if they say no, tell them that your dog thinks he's a person because he eats people food and sleeps in the bed with you.

If they say yes, ask them which breed and then interrupt them before they can answer -with football trivia

You'll get way better results driving them crazy with stuff that has nothing to do with a truck, than good old fashioned negotiation about sensible things like paint defects.

Once you've demonstrated your ability to purchase the truck, there is no length they wont go to in order to get the sale. Just keep wandering off topic and filling the air with useless words.

It'll drive them crazy to be so close to the sale but not have it that the $$$ lever will get pulled and you'll be in it for even cheaper.

Also, I believe these dealers do have the option of making trades for vehicles at other dealers lots, so dont let them lead you around talking about theres no more allocations.

I’m looking up allocations on my own, I can clearly see my dealership is kind of in a dead zone at the moment with Tacoma.
    My local salesman also confirmed.
When the first of the 24s came out, they were getting all of them well six other local dealers were getting nothing…

Honestly, I don't get it with the screen size. My 2014 has a 6.1" screen. I look at it when I start the truck to see what channel the radio is on. After that, the only time I ever look at it again is when a call or a text message comes in... then I use the steering wheel controls to answer if it's a call. ....Text messages: same: then pick one of the canned responses. It's also on the dimmest level or off at night.

Although it is pretty good, I have only used the Voice Command system a few times in the three years I have owned it. It understands what you said, and does what you ask, but it's slow to wake up and respond.

They can trade inventory with other dealers. All this allocation nonsense is doing is installing a sense of rarity and urgency to make you sign the dotted line.

If it were me, I'd go sport as I don't like the dash/cluster on the SR5 compared to the sport.

Or really compared to anything actually.

Hood scoop and firmer suspension on the Sport would be negatives though. But the cluster is what pushes me one way over the other.

They dealer traded 3 for me & paint was crap on all of them…
Not as bad as my first, but there were a few spots that definitely needed color sanding, I’m not going through that again. and the right way you can see where they color sanded my other truck..
