How are you going to deal with the steering lock and the immobilizer? Also are you going to make provisions so that the engine can’t be turned off unless the shifter is in park?

    Thank you!

I did look for threads on the subject here and everywhere in general but no specifics. Also seems like other people have been looking for the turbo timer harness part number but no luck.

My wife's new car has push to start. My Tacoma does not. I must say I am not a fan and dread the day I need to replace my Tacoma. Too much tech, not enough smart.

Once you remove the ignition cylinder it removes the steering lock or you can leave the cylinder in there and leave the cut the key on the on position, removing it completely is better imo.
My truck doesnt have an immobilizer, in case yours do there are ways to go around it, easier way might be to unplug the small oem unlock-lock unit in the passenger side of the car but i haven't looked into that since I don't have one.
The push start unit doesnt let the engine turn off unless you are pressing the brake pedal and in N or P since you have to run a wire from the unit to the brake pedal wire.

Seems like a lot of work for stuff that the keyed ignition does just fine at, as well as a lot that could go wrong when in use.

    No thanks.

Not a lot of work at all. It takes less than an hour if you know what youre doing, nothing has gone wrong in my year of use, definetely nothing to worry about if you do it correctly.

Is there an easy way to add a proximity key or key fob? The push to start thing doesn’t really matter to me but you got me thinking about the proximity key. It would be a nice addition.

Not gonna lie. I’m jealous every time I’m with my buddy and his 2020 Tacoma and he just reaches for the door and it unlocks.

A system like this wouldn’t allow for remote start would it? Or it would just complicate things? I’m using the 12 Volt Solutions kit and living in AK it’s sadly not something I want to do without in the winter.

Yeah, you need to connect the 2 wires for the lock and unlock and the door trigger wire. Also the power and negative. So i think those 5 wires and youre done.

Yeah it has remote start, after connecting the ignition wires another wire controls the remote start so super easy to enable as well.

Not a lot of responses probably because no one has any experience with putting one in a Tacoma. Rather than no one caring about your question.

Most people are very friendly and helpful, with a few smart asses mixed in.

All in all this is a great community to get info from. Sorry l couldn't help you at all.
Welcome to Tacoma World  Good luck

    Sorry, no experience installing one.
I bought a Digital Guard Dog push start system, 5 years ago. Had the local stereo shop do the install. Took about 3 hours. System has the push start , alarm. and remote start. It automatically locks, and unlocks the doors when approaching the truck. ( can be disabled to use F.O.B. buttons ) If you forget your F.O.B. , the kit comes with a credit card type key for your wallet, which you place in front of antenna to unlock and enable the system.
I'm happy with the results. I believe the system cost was around $1200 installed.

Whoa... had no idea it was so expensive but labor is always pricey... that sounds like a great system, very similar to the one im using.

Hi Everyone, I successfully completed the pushstart/alarm install. It took me about an hour with zero wiring splicing, the Tacoma uses the same ignition plug as my Supra so I was able to use a Supra 93 to 96 turbo timer plug.
I will try to do a very simple write up with pictures and part numbers in a bit for those interested.
