Here's a question. If I go out on a cold day to start my truck and warm it up what stops someone from jumping in and driving off. You can't lock the doors while it's running and the truck doesn't turn off after a certain period of time without the key fob in the truck.

If someone jumps in and drives off the only limitation to how far they can get is how much gas is in the tank.

Am I wrong? (Please say yes)

From what I can tell the only limitation is if the ever shut it down they can't restart it.

Bigger question is why can't you lock the doors while it's running.

I'd like to lock mine also... when it's -40 it takes a few minutes to warm up enough to be able to see thru the windshield..

Take the key out of the fob and lock it from the outside with the fob on the outside with you should work.

I have an aftermarket setup. If you press on the brake to put it in gear which you have to do it shuts the engine down. Key must be in ignition...... Maybe oem works the same ?

If u start the truck and leave the fob nearby on your counter lets say, and someone drives off will the truck sense that the fob is not close and shutdown?
It does in my moms venza, she will start it set the fob in the kitchen approx 10-15 feet from car. If she forgets the fob the venza shuts down about 80feet from the house

No that doesn't work. If the fob battery died going down the highway, Toyota would be in big trouble

I was told yesterday when i bought the truck if the fob battery ever died the fob must be very close to the pts in order to start so the truck can be started with a dead fob. Maybe i just dont understand

The thread is about starting your truck and having it stolen/locking the doors. From my understanding if the fob is not in the truck and someone drives off, the truck will die...
