He’ll be back in a few days under the new account @JstorXXX with a first post about hiding a .44 derringer in the sun visor, perhaps?

I am sorry to say, but the effort involved is likely near the intensity of an engine swap, esp as you are forging the path. I feel your pain and enjoy physical keys for a few reasons. My wife just got our first PTS vehicle, and it is annoying to live with. The only redeeming quality is the touch door handles, but even then, they seem to have a mind of their own.

You don't say what Taco you have, but keyed Tacos only come with the MTs or the SR / SR5. So, the hidden physical elements might not even be on your Taco to support an H key ignition.

I like the keyless push start, but I wish there were more options to leave the radio and usb ports ON easier.

Why would you be burning gas in accessory mode? Because that’s what this entire thread is about…
Easier than pushing a button before you shift into park?

Wife's telluride everything stays on until you open the door which is nice when you are waiting in a parking lot to pick someone up for example.

So if the effort was to disable the Auto Engine Shutdown after x-minutes, was the solution to put the vehicle in Neutral and engage the e-Brake, or was it to put the vehicle in Park, and use the inside Door Lock button, or both?

You’re not implying that’s easier right? It’s the same exact steps, just in a different order… Except you can open the door on the Tacoma afterwards without it shutting down

    1) order the parts. You'll need something like this:
    https://parts.toyotadm.com/oem-part...tch-8445012200?c=bD0zJm49U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM=
Just get the cheapest one you can find- they're all the same

    2) Pry out the push button that you despise. Do this angrily and with a blunt object like a screwdriver. Be sure to damage the surrounding trim a bit.

    3) Take this part out into the desert and burn it.

    4) Take note of the disconnected wires. Connect them to your new ignition switch. The colors should match up to make it easy. If in doubt, you can always just twist them all together, as electricity will just go where it wants anyway.

    5) Install ignition switch. You'll need duct tape since you angrily removed the button. No big deal. You are a man afterall, and you aren't gonna let no truck tell you how to use it.

6)Shit, did you forget to order a key?

7)Nevermind- just use the same blunt object that you used in step #2

8)Everything should work normal now. The truck will have learned a lesson, and the ECU knows that your intentions are better than the engineers at Toyota.

9)Pour yourself your favorite adult beverage and pat yourself on the back.

    10) I forgot to mention to disconnect the negative battery terminal first. Hope you remembered to do that.

yep, he/she hasn't logged in since posting this. TW 3rd gen forum is troll suspectable for sure.

Which bed mat should I buy? I think the OE mat smells like da poopy and I don't like what inflation did to the price of this item,,, but I'm okay with pricing levels everywhere else in life.

I've thought about doing this also because I do miss the key but I'll just live without it now!

I'm still lacking my sense of smell from a severe concussion I got in July of 2021, so I cannot smell my OEM bed mat, but that failing aside, I really like the mat.

Both work. Next time I'm camping in texas in the summer and need A/C I'm going to try the door lock button and see if it works. Otherwise buy a 2019.

I could see the change in design being purposeful. Kids, dogs, people shouldn't be left in a running vehicle without good ventilation.
At any rate, if there is an easy enough means to disable the function intentionally, good for you.
Aren't there any companies that build an AC unit that can run off 12V, and cool down the space (I presume in the bed of the truck with a shell over it of some kind)?

I set up in the cab.

I've looked, there's nothing that runs off of a reasonable sized battery power for the truck. They make those systems for campers, they can run off generators, etc. Hell, the windows aren't insulated. I did it once and don't plan to do it again, at least not with the setup I have now.
