Did a search but came up empty on this issue. My 2016 Tacoma at times will not start on the first push of the Start button. Have any of you experienced a problem with this? When the vehicle sits for a few days this is when I see the problem the most. I have had the vehicle since June. I am scheduled to take it in for the first check in October and they said they will check it out then. Only problem I see is if it starts for them while there, not sure what can be done with it until it actually fails. Any input or experiences would be appreciated.

    Thanks....

This happens to me occasionally when I push the button a split-second prior to pressing the brake pedal and I have to press the start button a second time to get it to turn over. Other than this bit of operator error, I've not had any issues. And yes, if the dealer cannot duplicate, they will likely not be able to troubleshoot.

I pay special attention to depress the brake then hit the "push to start" button for a few seconds. Sometimes it will take 7 or so tries to get it started. Very annoying.

I don't hold the start button and I've not had any hiccups in mine. I just push the brake, push start button in and let go. It starts every time.

Yeah, that would be annoying. Could be a bad push button or bad brake switch.

Same here. Just press the button and let go. The engine will continue to crank until it starts.

Your battery in the remote may be weak.

I would record it on your phone so you can show them what is happening and then they will have to troubleshoot it.

Battery in the key fob may be weak/bad.

No cranking, it's like nothing happens at all.

Battery in fob might be low or weak but the doors unlock ok. Guess I could check/replace it.

Yea worth a shot. Could be that simple hopefully! Maybe try your spare fob too?

No BRO-ness to speak of... Well, except Kbro2's
Mine does this once in a blue moon. Not 7 times in a row, but maybe once. When it happens the display on the dash reads "no key present" or some BS like that.... even though it just let me in the door. I just chalked it up to dealing with today's high tech stuff and the annoyances that inevitably come along with that. If it did it 7 times in a row, you can bet your ass i wouldn't be waiting until October to have the tools at Toyota look at it!

For comparison purposes, our 2015 Mustang GT does not have this issue nor does the wife's 2016 Scooby Forester. Both of which we have owned longer that the Taco.

Did you get your issue resolved? We are having the same issue & had a battery replaced, key fob replaced…seems like a sensor or fuse connection issue but haven’t figured it out.

Give me a key or give me death.
This is a major reason I went SR5, when I looked at a TRD and saw the push button I was like ... thank you no.

I wouldn't choose a vehicle based on the type of key it has. No problems with my TRD OR with remote start/key. TRD OR is way more than SR5. I've had both.
