The instrument cluster has always worked, and the fuel gauge always worked. I tried disconnecting battery, but that didn’t work. Is there a reset on the instrument cluster? Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I know it’s a long shot.

There is no reset, sounds like either something is disconnected or you have a faulty sending unit.

we just put a ground on the yellow and black wire off of the pump harness and it did nothing. But figured out the gauge cluster is functioning properly. Toyota parts house sending out faulty pump sending units is a possibility. Gonna email them, sucks I waited like a year and half to put it on, after ordering

I'll have to look at the wiring diagrams later, I can't remember what colors the 2 sending unit wires are.

Appreciate that, the other smaller wire was orange. The two fatter wires I’m assuming are the actual power

IIRC the orange wire is the signal wire for the gauge and the Yellow/Black is the sensor ground but I'm not 100% sure without looking.

Yea at the fuel pump connector Pin 2 (Orange) is Fuel Level Sensor Signal and Pin 3 (Yellow/Black) is Fuel Level Sensor Ground, you can briefly short them together to see if the gauge goes to full. If it does but the gauge doesn't work with the pump plugged in you have a bad level sensor.

It sucks but you're probably going to have to pull the tank back down and double check your work

    Been there, done that.
I some how managed to get the sending unit float arm in a bind while putting the unit into the tank.
Tank was reading FULL when got it back in. No way it was full. I drained it all out before I started.
Of course, that's when they all fail. Just as soon as you fill up the tank.

Wasn't on a Tacoma, but still a PITA.

Few years ago I got stuck with a Ford landscaping truck. Somebody drilled the crap out of the tank to steal the fuel. I installed a junkyard tank but the fuel level never worked correctly. I even tried 2 more different tanks, pulled everything down multiple times, checked all the wiring and float arm.. If i recall there was something about California tanks vs federal.. ugh. Never got it to work right.

I've never even done a pump on a toyota lol. They rarely fail compared to other manufacturers

Regular cabs prop the bed up . But yep you’re likely correct.

I am wondering if toyotapartsdeal isn’t shipping out questionable over stock. Second part I’ve had issues with from them. Fml

What sucks was my original pump was fine at 238k, but I had this one lying around since I bought it by mistake, ended up being another problem. Since I couldn’t return it I popped it in. And the damn gauge worked for a few days, so I tossed the old pump.

Your problem might be quite obvious once you open the tank and pull the unit back up.
