Any pros cons or modifications to the bed to make this happen? I have a Tundra and it was no issue, but in a Tacoma, I'm worried about the weight on the tailgate. This would only be a on a few weekends during hunting season. The 4wheeler weights 600lb. Suggestions

600lbs? that seems super light. heres a 1000lb ace in the bed and an 800lb sportsman

I don't think there is an officially listed weight load for the tailgate. I think it comes down to how much tire/weight is really on the actual tailgate. If your rear tires aren't mostly on the bed, I would just use some boards to park the rear tires on, to shift the weight.

    Happy hunting, stay safe!

Appreciate the reply's and the pics. I googled the weight of the 4 wheeler to get the 600lb. Also did you have to do anything for the wheel wells? in the pics it looks like you just went over them, I did a quick measurement and mine won't fit in between them. I was thinking I was going to have to build some type of ramp/platform. I guess I'm going to have to ease it up there and see.

Do you have a 6' bed?

I wouldn't build a platform, personally. That would just put the weight higher up and make the ride worse.

I have the Decked Drawer system, and that is what I do, have a 2x8(10?) board that sits on the end of the bed and spans over the tail gate. I did that after noticing after I bought a new four-wheeler that the passenger side C bracket that the tail gate sits in was bending downwards from the unloading process which involves a foot plus drop off the drawer, I'm sure the soft suspension bottoming out contributed as well.

I do plan on avoiding the tail gate problems with some new ramps that ive been eyeing up, and they avoid the whole ramp slipping out problem and keeps the weight directly off the tailgate hinge.

A four wheeler is not that heavy. At most you are subtracting ~400LBs from an already front heavy truck, which if we are being honest, simply having a driver and a singler passanger can easily cancel out and then some. The truck already has a rear braking bias, so less rear tire lock up. It beats not having to pay the toll to park a trailer at a state park, you actually have some bed space you can use for coolers, spare parts, more tools, and makes loading and unloading faster, and much safer in any condition, anywhere.

It does look absolutely funny, and not in the good way, but from logical point of view, it is mostly pros over standard ramps that you have to strap in place everytime, if you can get over how dumb it looks. But as they say, if it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid.

I guess for a lightweight 4 wheeler, it's no different than having a motorcycle on a hitch carrier.

I guess the full size trucks in the photos threw me, because I saw the side-by-sides, so that's what I was thinking of hanging off a Tacoma.

And even for something heavy like a Honda Foreman, which is ~600 lbs, that's still within bounds for allowable tongue weight (and half the weight is in the bed anyway).

Appreciate all the input, I finally just bit the bullet and loaded it last night. Tight squeeze between the wheel wells. But its the tire rubbing, not the rim on the bed. It is tight fight over all but fits. I'm gonna have to span the load with 2x8's or 10's. Does look like a lot of stress on the tailgate, but doable. Next issue is where the heck will a deer go if I get lucky enough!! LOL

I wish mine would fit between the wheel wells. If I drive over them, the aftermarket front bumper will probably contact the rear window once I get over them. I gave up on loading it in the bed and started using an old 5x8 trailer my dad bought from Lowe's and didn't need anymore once he moved into a 50+ community. It's not such a headache to tow it and there's room behind the quad to strap down a cooler. I'd still prefer putting it in the bed but it's just not practical.

I looked at these for a while when I bought my Sportsman. With the brush guard on the front I'm afraid I'll tap my back glass. I ended up just getting a 5x7 galvanized trailer off marketplace for the same cost. Safer to load and I have my bed free.

a Kawasaki Concours14 with the back tire in the center of the tailgate... will cause the tailgate to fold in half like a piece of cardboard. That is a 500+lb bike, so maybe 200-250lbs of it on the back tire? but a motorcycle tire will push a lot more PSI than a 4wheeler set of tires.

The C14 is nearly 700 lbs (more than I would want to load into a truck bed, for sure). And yeah, having the weight + tie-down pressure concentrated on a single point is worse than the 4 wheelers.

well, fortunately i had my welder and some tools on that trip. I found a metal yard and built a tailgate in the parking lot. its ugly LMFAO, but it can hold the weight.

Back is even wider and there's not enough room between the wheel wells and the front wall of the bed for the tires to sit on the bed floor so I'd end up risking it hitting the back window or cab roof. I might give it a try before heading to the Hatfield-McCoy trails in October. It'd sure be nice to not drag the trailer.
