PVC valve

    Is this the PVC valve? Normal to see grease/liquid from this area? I have been having one P0420 problems with the Catalyic converter recently. Truck is going to the shop next week to have the front and rear converters checked out and replaced.

    Should I have the braddas look at this as well? Trucks got 95k miles on it so i was considering getting new plugs, wires, fuel filter.

    Before you take it in, you'd be better off just checking your O2 sensors front and rear. Probably save you a ton of money.

    yes that is the PCV valve. I recently replaced mine because it looked like yours. Its only like $5 at autozone

    Is it possiable that pcv valves can lead to catalytic converter problems?

    after removing it...
    shake it... if the ball is moving inside
    it's probably fine.
    It can be cleaned using sensor safe spray cleaners.
    might fail to work well when it gets dirty
    as the ball could stick and or not seal well.

    But usually new ones are only needed when you break one
    trying to pull that out
    for a test :p


    mine was tight to pull from the grommet !
    thought I was gonna break it pulling it out.
    but it didn't

    it's likely your grommet/O-ring seat is at fault
    for the residual seepage.
    Tho' a gummed up valve could assist.

    a new aft mkt pvc valve could fit tighter or looser
    as oem spec tolerances seem to vary some, that I've noticed.

    Unlikely. Unless it were a massive leak causing a massive misfire and a ton of fuel/air into the catalytic.

    Like i said, p0420's are usually caused by old, stock, original O2's. I had a p0420, tested out both my O2's, and found them to be bad. Replaced both, and never had another issue. Until recently.

    How do u test those sensors? I didn't know I could test them before I go out and buy new ones. I'm getting the same P0420 code as of recently

    That picture applies to the 3RZ/2RZFE and 5VZFE.

    Usually if it's P0420, the rear O2 sensors are to blame.

    stock.....for now...
    If you replace the PCV valve, replace the grommet in the valve cover too...it will be all dried up and hard. You can get one at autozone.

    I had the same code, replaced that valve and it did nothing. Mine was the rear o2 sensor, replaced that and the code went away.
