I don't recall the exact brand but I went with whatever the cheap one was at Advance Auto, Duplicolor I think. You don't need any of the super high temp (>2000F) paints. It doesn't get that hot that far back so any of the 500-800F paints work. I used a matte/low-gloss first but it didn't come out great. I'd recommend a satin/semi-gloss finish. That's what I did round two and it came out amazing. There's a lot of options so you can use whatever you like the most.

Ensure you sand it with a medium grit sandpaper some first and clean it fully. Also do a few medium coats followed by a heavy coat to finish it off. I had to redo mine due to poor prep and too light of coats.

I love the sliders do you feel they help with door dings?

    Thanks! I do as well.

They'll definitely help a lot for door dings from cars or other low vehicles. They may/don't help for large vehicles, trucks, or shipping carts. I have an unfortunate decent-sized dent on the rear passenger corner of my cab which is shopping cart height. I think they help just as well as any other steps/sliders would for door dings.

I looked at your mod list on the OP, did you do anything for suspension? I'm looking at a similar wheel and tire setup, but wasn't sure if you lifted/leveled or anything.

I'm on stock Sport suspension, no lift or leveling kit, or modifying of any kind. No rubbing or issues at all even at full lock, over bumps, etc.

Awesome, that's good to hear. Did you get any increased road noise? I'm coming from the 18" limited wheels with stock Michelin tires. I know there will be some increased noise, just wondering if it's obnoxious.

Not at all, I honestly didn't even notice. The ride comfort is great and very little, if any, increased noise. A world of difference from the second gen I had with 16" Level 8 MK6 wheels and 265/75R16 Cooper Discoverer ATP tires which rode rough and were louder

Awesome! 90% of the reason I bought the truck was to use it for hiking and camping trips. I started thinking, "these Limited wheels and tires would suck for offroading and going to the beach. why the hell would I want to own a truck and have to tell people I need to switch my tires before I can go on the beach?"

So now i'm shopping for wheels and tires. lol I'm thinking of doing the TRD wheels but in gray. It's too dirty and dusty here in Seattle to do all black wheels. I'd be cleaning them all the time.

The matte grey TRD wheels look great on the blazing blue pearl. I definitely thought about it for awhile. It would look good with all of your other Limited accents. I had gunmetal wheels on my nautical blue metallic 2nd gen which was a darker blue. Bronze wheels also look awesome on BBP trucks and don't show dirt/dust that bad at all

Hey man, question about the TRD wheel vinyl decals... can you see the original red color underneath your blue vinyl? I ordered a matte black set and went to install them today, but I can still see the red. It sucks, not happy about it, and I don't think it is user error.

Edit: Can you see the red along the edges when you put your blue vinyl decals on top?

I can clearly see red along the edges of my matte black.

Hey aksel, I have the same vinyl decals and could see red song the edges right after installing. When you step back from up close the red disappears and now I've forgotten all about it.

Ideally the decals would be just a bit larger than the original text. I'd say try living with it for a week and see if the red "fades away".

You can definitely see the red on the edges if you're up close as @openspace4x4 has said. But he's also right that you really don't notice it once you're a few feet away. It's a mild annoyance but doesn't bother me too much since I know you'd really only notice it if you know it's there. I agree it would be better if they were just a hair bigger. I'm still super happy with the change it adds and the overall color/look. @rrentrop - some constructive criticism/advice/reviews! :drunk:

Is there any reason you didn't go with color matched paint and a small brush? Just curious.

Good question! I actually have color-matched touch-up paint which comes with a small brush. I didn't have it when I first got the wheels I don't think. I feel like you'd get better coverage over the red but you wouldn't get as clean and straight lines unless you are super patient and that sounds like an aggravating task haha. The decals were pretty easy to get on and look good I think. Plus you can always remove them if you decide to sell them down the road which is good if you're selling them to someone who doesn't have the same color Tacoma or if they have a 4Runner

Noted. I recently modified the cut file to try to cover the red completely. I'll be happy to send a replacement set.

Thanks, Rich! I'm happy with mine and it doesn't bother me at all. If my OCD starts to get worse, I'll reach out to you but I don't expect that! I've always been super happy with your products and just wanted to let you know of some candid feedback to help you make them even better!

Thx for the responses. I think the problem is that I'm trying to use matte black decals to cover up the red lettering underneath, and the contrast between the matte black and red is just too obvious, even from a distance. If I were going with your blue pearl over the red, I think it would be less obvious that there is some red outlining.

Unfortunate, but no worries. Rich will take care of me I'm sure. I wouldn't advise the matte black though.
