Yep, I used the 3/16ths. Way stronger than the frame itself.

Thanks bud, its been a lot of work. But so far its paying off.

Ive never tried hardwire. I dont even know what it is.

I went and took a few photos. This is the driver side. Its about 2-3" past the shock mount.

this is the passenger side. Its also few inches from the shock mount.

Do you think a few inches would be enough support to prevent frame damage?

Your plates are probably fine and better than nothing for sure. Adding more obviously wouldn't hurt but might not be totally necessary.

I think he's talking about solid wire instead of flux core. In the pic of your buddy welding on the frame plates it looks like you're using flux core since you have no shielding gas being used. Using blended gas like Argon/CO2 and solid wire is much nicer than flux core.

Yeah, when we were using the acetylene and oxygen we were using a solid steel rod. But the difference in welding speed versus the mig welder is huge. The acetylene takes 10xs longer.

This man knows his shit lol! For welding like that soild/hard wire lays down a pretty bead. Its a goldish color, and comes in different size spools. Flucore is more for production at high amps.

Went on a trip this last weekend. Took some cool photos. First trip in several years. It was really nice to get back on the dirt and show some love to the trucks.

Ended up painting the rear bumper black. Its a lot better then the chrome IMO.

I am really pleased with how those cheap harbor freight lights worked. They were only 7.99 each, and they worked like a charm at night. I definitely stand by them, and will recommend them for a nice cheap rear light.

It was a good trip to test out the rack too. Its definitely too high, and since I made the side supports bolt on, it didnt work out as I was hoping.
I probably had about 150-200 lbs of gear on the rack, and with it that high, there was to much flex and snapped one of the support brackets right in half. Also, the whole rack got super loose. Ended having to take the tire off the rack so it wouldn't get any more messed up.

Gotta find out a way to prevent the CB Radio Antenna from smacking my cab. It got hit a few times pretty good. I might plastidip that section so itll protect the paint a lot better.

This weekend I have lots of things I would like to change. I am going to chop the rack down another 6" and make the whole thing welded on. Also, might make some rubber bushings where it bolts to the bed so it can flex a bit. Not sure if I should make a 3rd support in the center between the other 2 support bars. I was having trouble using the tie downs and keeping the spare fuel tank straight. I want to make an attachment on the rack for the tank. That way its nice and sturdy. I really liked how the rear bumper came out, so I am pretty sure am gonna murder out the truck too. Going to change all chrome to a nice flat black.
