I had a 4Runner for the last 6 years, had fun adding onto it, but now it's time to give up the ghost and I want to switch to a Tacoma. I found a '23 TRD Sport with 18k miles, for 35k, previous owner was in Michigan, so specifically checked it out to see how bad the rust would be. I live in the south, so for the future it's not a concern, and I know it was just one winter but wanted to see if people smarter than me would be able tell me one way or another how bad the rust is based on these pics.

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
all that looks pretty standard.. uncoated parts get it quick, probably new Toyotas on lots that look similar. to me it doesn’t look like anything is being hidden

Thanks for the input. Glad they didn't try to hide anything i've come across dealers that do that. I figured it was pretty manageable too. Appreciate the input and suggestion for how to take care of it. If all goes well I'll be able to truly be a member here!

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Looks like mine did after a year. Gotta love the salt cartels.

Almost everything you posted pics of is cast iron, and or unprotected raw steel. Once you get it, coat it with a corrosion inhibitor of your choice like Fluid film, wool wax, or surface shield, each fall before the snow. Make sure to get the perimeter of the doors, hood, tail gate, over the wheel wells on the fenders and boxside's, and pull the rocker plugs, and HOSE it in there in every hole. Will last you a good long while, if you take care of it. Ski
