I just got the Galaxy S5 built in Qi cover last night. My cheap case I had on it barely fit but the charger works through it (I did remove an internal lining which reduced protection). I did some research and it seems no one has stated exactly what cases allow the wireless charge to go through the case. You have to be a little picky about where in that tray you put the phone though. I find mine works best when about right in the middle, but pulled toward the front of the tray (if that makes sense.)
Make sure the toggle button above it is on, and when it "pairs" you will see an orange light come in inside the tray itself. Good luck.

Update, my new Aero Armor case DOES NOT allow Qi charging through the trucks Qi pad with the Samsung charging back plate.
Doe anyone have a protective case that DOES allow the truck to charge my S5? I heard a few say some Gel cases work, but Id love to know which cases specifically will work so I don't waste money. A link to the case would be great as there are so many different cases by the same company. Im actually thinking of cutting a square out of the back of my current case and see if that works. Phone would still be protected on corners which is really the main need for a case anyway in the event of you dropping it.
    Thanks again all....

well I am guessing mostly very thin non metal cases. the pad probably only has 1-2 coils compared to higher quality 3 coil units like my tylt vu stand.

I have a Galaxy 6. At home I have the Samsung Galaxy Qi charger and it charges perfectly. Had the phones since spring.

In the truck, it charges, then pauses, then charges, then pauses, etc, etc. Of course, it constantly is making its connection and not connecting sound. The amber light on the pad lights up, but it can be lite, even if the phones light is not and it says charging has paused.

Doesn't matter if the truck is moving or not. Doesn't matter if the case is on or not. If the case isn't on, it also slides around. Read the manual to see if I has missing anything. I was able to drive about four blocks without it bouncing in and out of charging and pausing.

Haven't had the truck 24 hours yet. Only driven 25 miles. Anyone know where the sweet spot is on the charger or have any tips? Thank you.

yeah, have the phone placed as close to the edge facing the shifter.

I haven't seen any difference on placement west/east on the pad.

I tried that spot and also hugging the right side. Nothing seemed to make a difference. I'll give hugging the shifter side another shot this afternoon. Thanks.

the range on QI chargers is usually less than 8-5mm. Not sure how thick the plastic piece is on the interior but I'm thinking that combined with the case can cause problems. It's a short range, and the further you are the weaker the charging.

and if I forgot, she is using Samsung S6 with a thin single layer case.

Note 4 doesn't work with the case I have on it (caseology with Samsung wireless charging back). works fine in my Tylt VU charging stand.

I have a Galaxy S6 with an otterbox Commuter series. Its on and off. not sure if its the case or just haven't found the sweet spot. Gonna try without the case.

that commuter is too thick, hence the on/off charging. either go with a thinner case or w/o.

Made a second attempt this afternoon. Still doesn't matter if the case is on or off, or if the car is moving or stopped. Galaxy 6, with a thin case, or without a case, that works at home perfectly with a Samsung Qi charger.

Tried favoring the shifter side. The Amber light stays on, but the phones charge light goes on and off, the phone charge sound makes the connect and pause sound and the wording that tells you it's charging or pausing comes and goes. Ok, the Amber light did go off when I didn't have the cover on and it slide off. Just normal traffic, not on the highway, no gravel or bumpy roads.

Will continue to follow this thread to hear what others say.

I wonder if there is a way to amplify the power to the charger a bit more

I am not experienced with the Qi charger. How can I make it work with my iphone 6s?

If your dealer didn't explain how to use it, go to page 414 of the manual. It will show you where the charger switch is located. Turn it on. Lay you Phone on the charging pad. An Amber light will come on in the pad area when it's recognizing your phone and hypothetically is charging.

If your phone isn't qi ready, you would have to purchase a special qi case for your particular phone to give it that capability.

You first need to purchase a charging adapter for the iphone (iphone is not Qi compatible). Use a thin case and place it on the charging pad and turn the pad on.

Why do I sense the aftermarket will quickly come up with a solution to make this work with any phone in any position on the tray? It's just sad that Toyota with all their R&D dollars couldn't just get it right from the start

I just returned that exact case! In order to get it to charge, I had to jam folds of paper between the charger plate and my phone. In other words, bring the plate as close to the surface of the case. It bowed the case a bit, too. And after all that, once it got warm - and it does so rather quickly - it would rapidly alternate between charging and not charging. Even though the Qi-charging indicator light remain lit the whole time.

Thanks. My truck is 5 weeks out and I'm an Apple user but wasn't sure what I needed for adapters to make use of the wireless charging when my truck arrives.
