I'm sensing a community mod in the making. I'd like to take advantage of wireless fast charging but it needs more wattage from the charging plate.

Qi charging isn't new to Toyota. Know they have had it in Avalons anyway. Don't know how well it worked though.

Hopefully in 5 weeks we will have this figured out and know if most people are getting it to work or not.

S5's can take an internal charger. Pop the back cover, lay the Qi coil over the inside, it's connector lines up perfectly with the S5's. Put on the cover and you have built in Qi technology. I did this for my wife's. She has a thick drop case and the charging pad works fine. As for the Taco's built-in - no clue how good it is. Most charging pads these days are 3 coils, meaning better sensitivity for the charge pickup. I'll be putting one in my change tray for my phone to lay on (Nexus 5). Easy mod.

Agreed, this location seems to work the best with my iPhone 6s. The Taco's wireless charging rate seems to be a bit quicker than the pads I'm using at home as well. I went with the below options for wireless charging and are working pretty well so far-

I have and S5 with the Samsung charging cover. Found this case on Amazon and honestly, I like it better than my Otter that I originally had my phone in.

Hey CitizenRob, Have you tried the case in the truck yet? Curious how it charges 'through' the case. Pain to take cover off every time you want to use it. Currently I have cut a rectangle out of the back of my current case to make it work.
    Thanks

We have tried 2 different Galaxy 6 phones which have built in Qi. Neither works. The Amber light shows charging and it may charge for a couple of seconds, but then it will pause. Charge, pause, charge pause, etc. They both working perfectly fine on our Samsung round pad chargers at home.

Doesn't matter if the case is on or not or if the truck is even moving. Same result. Did attempt all of the suggestions regarding the sweet spot on a 200 mile trip. So back to the past, the old fashion way of plugging in with a cord.

Will have to check with the dealer.

I would check with dealer too... Mine works perfect every time WITHOUT A CASE. The problem with me is finding a case that allows the changing to "come through" so I don't have to take case on and off all the time.
I think I read somewhere about the difference between a 3 and a 2 coil charger. I believe I read that a 3 coil is better but the truck just has the 2 coil (again, going from a memory of a post I read a long time ago).
If this is the case, maybe we could all fight with Toyota to switch out that plate if a newer stronger one comes available (or maybe aftermarket and we just buy it ourselves.)

Not yet, I won't have my truck until late November, but I have a charger on my nightstand and on my desk at work and it works great. In fact, I was actually impressed how quickly it does charge.

it shouldn't be hard to swap the oem pad with an aftermarket, just means you have to tear out the center console, remove the old one and wire in a new one somehow.

I just ordered this one. It has the most "success stories" from people on this forum.

FYI: it is $15 cheaper on Amazon than on Spigen's site for anybody else that may want to get it.

Yeah, without a case the phone slides off, so a big negative. But glad at least yours works without a case. I was wondering what the specs were of the Galaxy 6 and it's pad charger vs the truck. I hadn't read anything yet about the 2 vs 3 coil situation. I know they have had the Qi charges in 2015 Camry's and think 2014 Avalon's and remember hearing rumblings about those when they came out. Figured being a 2016 Truck, they would've figured things out my now. Guess not. I need to surf the Camry/Avalon sites. Did read something about taking a piece of paper and folding it and placing under the phone. I have not tried that yet. Tacky, but if it works, guess I would do it.

I'm really hoping at somepoint someone develops a fix, because this is a very useful technology but I'm not going to take my otterbox off my GS6 everytime I want to use it. Anyone tried the Galaxy Note5?

I stopped at a local MetroPC store next to my house last night and they had several S5 cases on clearance. I picked up a gel case which both fits my s5 with the bigger charger backplate AND allows the trucks wireless charging to work through it without having ot remove the cover... Super happy.
I will look up the brand name for everyone.
Like I said, my local store has them on clearance, so if anyone wants one, just let me know. Might be cheaper for me to send you one as opposed to buying one online if I can help anyone out. I got blue to match the truck, but I think I saw red, grey, black and probably a few other colors.
