IIRC, the lower will be the suction

upper pushes coolant out, lower intake

What would you be trying to flush out with a chemical flush that distilled water couldn’t flush?

ChrisFix has a good rad flush video on YT.

If you have an old radiator......flushing the engine with chems may clog it and/or heat core...
or even cause the plastic to radiator to leak...

So i'd be careful here....maybe distilled water....

I always flush with plain water from the hose. Run a day or two and do it again. Repeat till it drains clear.

Then drain and refill with a premix. There won't be enough of the other water left to matter, and the premix means you don't have to futz with distilled.

Last time I flushed an old radiator.....
I just filled it up once a day with the garden hose.
Drove it around.....and did it again next day.

It took 6 or 7 cycles to get the pink stuff to run clear....

    Ok guys
I wasn’t going to post a ‘My taco overheating thread’……..without searching
    I think I got plan
    Just need experts opinions

now is HOT here in tx
Had 2 1hr+ trips in last week
    1st I was on 80mph tollway
    I was dogging her, 75-85
    Temp(idiot gauge) started moving up
    2nd another trip….kept under 75
Not as bad, but gauge definitely rose(over horizontal, not in red/pegged)

    1st time hit heater
    Temp dropped like a stone
2nd time turned off AC and slowed down

so I have a hot at hwy speed issue

If it was mine....I'd block off the heat core.
flush it with something from auto store.

    then replace the radiator.....

.....head gasket, valves, tranny, ....no body likes heat....
    heat greatly shortens their life...

You know these single core crimp top radiators suck.....

I think of them as the starter cartridge you get with a new laser printer...

    Start simple.

Make sure the condenser face is clean

Make sure the space between the condenser and radiator is clean

Make sure the radiator face is clean

How old is that radiator? Are the fins all filled with gunk and / or has it been painted a bunch?

    Now I pretty confident(from searching)
    It’s the Rad

    -pulled prior owners records
    Last rad installed 2020
    -I RR’d T-cover gaskets while back
    So new h20 pump/t stat/new coolant
    (Not flush)
-I soaked the 5yr old rad in vinegar overnight during that job
    -ECT (head) RR’d
-great compression test results (when I got truck
-lower rad hose is new(not collapsing)
-RM injectors RR’d so not running lean
-doesn’t run hot at idle(not fan clutch)
    And shroud is present

now I didn’t know about 2 things last major wrench job
1-that 12 o’clock setting of that wiggle thing on T-stat
2-that block coolant drain bolt on 2RZ
    (Pass side….correct?)

everything I read today says radiator
Bought rad(last freaking one on RA and rad cap) today

also plan on TOTALLY flushing coolant system
Heater core/block…..which I didn’t do the first time bc I was newbie here!

    ANY advice/tips appreciated
    Cheers

Long shot would be water pump going out...

a non oem one might deteriorate quickly in dirty hot old coolant...
the non oem chassis parts damn sure do....

Same thing with the thermostat.....its tempting to get a $10 one online...
.....dont do it.....pony up $35 for the real one......way too important...

pretty sure in 2020(I got in 2023)
    Lite front end impact
    Rad replaced

I got a laser temp gun
Might try to find a cold/blocked on rad but doubtful if I have access
Outside of rad looked fine when cleaned

    must state
ZERO overheat symptoms throughout entire 9month wrenching jobs
    But
No long trips bc of no insurance (only test drives)
    Now street legal…..driving longer/harder
    Issue popping up

    no Obd codes BTW
