Quad’s Simple and Practical DCSB Build

Hey everyone welcome to my 2021 SR5 4x4 Tacoma build. This is my first truck and I bought it to be my daily driver and to have a little fun in the dirt from time to time. I chose the SR5 trim because it had a little quality of life features over the SR and only needed 4 wheel drive for my purposes (also couldn’t afford a Off-Road, but that’s besides the point!).

I’ve owned my truck since Feb. 2024, so I’ll get you up to date on all the mods I’ve done to the truck today. All the mods I have done so far are functional upgrades to enhance the truck the way I use it.

Here is when I first got my truck in Feb. 2024. Just got done with its first wash, clay bar and wax!

Crazy to look back and see how much my truck has changed

 

The first mods I did to the truck was a soft tonneau cover from Gator and air dam delete.

I was getting married soon and wanted something to cover to bed when traveling on our honeymoon.

 

Next thing I did was add 265/75R16 Cooper Road & Trails and got the front windows tinted to match the back.

Tires when I bought the truck were still the stock 245/75R16 Firestone’s from the factory and were starting to dry rot.

Between the air dam delete and bigger tires I finally felt like it was starting to look like a truck!

 

A few months later I added a Yotaverse pro grille.

I originally ordered a normal aftermarket pro grille but didn’t like how the TSS cover fit so I returned it and got this one. Didn’t like the raptor lights at first but they have really grown on me

 

Added an OEM bed mat, nothing special to note here however one of the best things I have done to the truck. Let me actually put things in the bed without it sliding around, highly recommend if you don’t have one.

This is September 2024 and how I had my truck until Feb/March 2025.

First time getting out in the snow!

 

Bought me a set of KMC Canyon 16x8 w/ 0 offset.

Didn’t keep these on my truck very long, had an awful time balancing the wheels and one wheel was out of round from the factory.

 

Decided to cut my losses with the KMC wheels and sell them. Ended up buying a set of SEMA wheels wrapped on 265/70R17 Cooper Rugged Trek! These wheels have been great and balance much better than the KMC wheels did.

Wasn’t thrilled about losing sidewall for a bigger rim but looking at my truck now it has grown on me. I plan to get 255/75R17 in the future to run a true 32” tire, so overall it was a good choice for me!

Installed color matched bumper caps I bought off eBay. Super happy with these!

 

OEM tailgate letters. Really completed the rear end of my truck if you ask me

 

Decided I wanted to get a Softopper and was in the process of saving money for a new one and checking marketplace like a mad man trying to find one.

After a few months of looking I found this Softopper and custom bed rack for $750. Such a good deal that I couldn’t pass up. The rack is a little heavy but man oh man do I absolutely love this setup!

 

I think we are all caught up with everything I have done to to the truck and from this point forward it will be for new things I do to the truck or adventures I go on!

 

I plan to buy a set of KMC myself, the Canyon series, I have a 4th gen. What was tricky about balancing them?

 

I'm not sure if it was my tire tech not able to balance but they always had a vibration, maybe it was the tires but I have SEMAs now and they ride perfect.

 

did you use a hub ring if I may ask? I got my KMC now, but the hub bore is a rare 100.3mm, there is no ring maker that even make this size. Now I am going to return the wheels to KMC, such a pity.
