UPDATE - I had to sell the quad, for health (and other) reasons.

Apparently, repeating the sequence of 400 lbs of ATV violently coming up from the whoops, and 200 lbs of ME coming down, with the impact point at the base of my spine will rupture cervical discs and damage vertebrae. T8/9, in my case. The pain is constant and exquisite in nature...

The dirt bike is lighter, has a much more compliant suspension, and is (mostly) ridden standing on the pegs, so it's not as punishing. But after a day of riding, Ibuprofen is my friend, for about a week to 10 days.

    God, I hate getting old...

Quads are better for hunting and work use for as well as pleasure. Try and put your guns, coolers, and a dead animal onto your dirt bike. Also IMHO don't get a 2wd quad. 4wd is so much safer and better get around. I mean quads are only for off road. Get 4x4. Plus going up steep hills i know in 2wd its easier to flip the quad right back on yourself if you gun it whereas in 4wd you can gun it and it just pulls right up the steepest hills. And even tho its said not to its easier to fit a passenger on your quad. Dirt bikes you can too but you kinda need an extended seat at least.

Quads are also more expensive and can be hard to get out of some situations. If you do flip a quad too good luck flipping 500 lbs back over by yourself. It is not easy... Also you can fit easily fit 2 dirt bikes in the same space as 1 quad. For example trucks or trailers.

Dirt bikes can go just about anywhere. If you can walk on the path you can ride a bike on it. Quads need more room on the trail which limits where they can go. Dirtbikes do not. Bikes also get better gas mpg if that matters to you. Easier to go on extended trips like on that trip that crosses most of the country without hitting much pavement. Plus you can get an Enduro and it be legal on the roads which is a definite plus.

Pros and cons to each. If moneys no object get both.
