Did they give any reason not to? I installed a 700W inverter (direct off battery) in my truck years ago, was planning to charge battery and controller on it when I get my P3.

I can't remember off hand what the exact reasoning was behind it. I done it when i first got my P4 the first couple times and it did fine. (I just figured it was fine cause the charger is 1 into 2). Now i do it separate just in case (cause the battery is so expensive) but i don't see a reason why not. Even if it charges it slower i guess it could just damage a cell or something. Who knows

It was never an issue with the Inspire. And I charged with a 4 port battery hub and the remote at the same time. So I had $600 worth of batteries and a charger hooked up to it. No problems. The charger never even heated up above warm.

I was hoping to score a used one for slightly cheaper than Amazon. They're still full priced on there for now.

What kind of stuff do you use it for? I have the Syma X8G so just a super basic one that was cool to start off with but I really want something with more range and control and be able to see while I'm flying. The P3 advanced can do follow-me feature right? I plan to mainly use it out while off roading in the desert and maybe some beach/surfing use with friends in secluded areas

Here's the issue I see with buying a used drone (and yes I sold my Inspire a few months ago). You do not know how the person that owned it used it previously. That's not to say that they didn't do exactly as I did and babied it from day one. I had almost $3500 invested in mine so I had no choice but to baby it. But on a Phantom 3 Advanced you're not going to save that much buying used. And in my mind it would be a toss up over buying a used one that "might" have been slightly abused (they are a little bit tougher than a Inspire btw) than just buying a new one that you know has never been crashed or abused. I buy new every time. Even vehicles I'll buy new (even though I'm the one that will take the deprecation hit) because "I" know how "I'm" going to take care of them. In fact that's the reason most of my friends buy my shit. They let me buy it first and when I get tired of it they'll buy it from me on the cheap lol.

You got a P3 you wanna sell? :spy::rofl:

I do see your point though. It depends on the price I can get it used for. If it's a good chunk of change then I'll do it but if not then I'll probably buy new. I just like to see all my options first. Debating between this and finishing building out my AR15 lol

When I sold my Inspire I knew it was a long-shot selling it online. I'm an active member on the DJI forums so when I put mine up for sale it wasn't like I was a unknown to the people on the forums. So that made it a little easier. I buy and sell stuff on this forum quite often. But I usually only buy from people that have been on the forums for a while and are active. Most people (including myself) want to protect their reputation and nothing will ruin that quicker than fucking someone over. There was someone that was selling a Nikon DSLR about 6 months ago for a really good deal but only had about 19 posts in this forum (most of which in that sale thread). I contacted the person selling it and they seemed very nice and I came close to buying it but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I was honest with them about why and they thanked me for my honesty and they understood. So buying a used drone is tricky since they are pretty sophisticated pieces of equipment. And when you do decide to buy one remember that you will not come close to getting your money out of it that you put into it for that reason. Your AR 15 will.

I think that's kind of with anything you buy used. However that isn't to say it isn't going to last as long as anything else. Most people buy expensive things and hardly use it till they sell it, giving a great deal to the next person in line. I'm usually one to buy new as well but take this for example, my first motorcycle I bought I paid for it brand new. Put 5500K miles on it the first summer of riding. A few years after I sold that bike and was finding "Used" bikes for half the value with 4-5K miles on them and 6-7 years old. Knowing now what I knew then, 4-5K miles on a 6-7 year old bike means they were barely rode. Even if it wasn't the easiest 4-5K miles, that's practically a brand new bike for half the cost. I think when buying "used" it boils down to make sure you know what you're getting, for the price, and the key is to make sure you are knowledgeable about what you're purchasing so you don't get screwed.

I know exactly what you mean. I dont know how much exactly I'll use it, which is why I'm considering a used one. And it's definitely hard to know the condition it is online or the person who used it and how they did like you said...

Anyways, would you say the P3 Advanced is worth the extra 200-300 more than the P3 standard? I think I was seeing some of the P3 standards going new for about $300-400. I just haven't done enough research in to them to really know the concrete differences and what makes the advanced "better"

It depends on what you're going to you use it for. What quality you want to get out of it. If its recreational or more serious. Does the higher quality video appeal to you over just regular HD and so on so forth.

Here are all the differences in the Phantom lineup. Since I do a lot of photo / video I tend to go with whatever gives me the best video. That said... I did sell my Inspire for a Mavic Pro and though similar the Inspire does have better video capability. Much of which I can correct in post so the portability was the huge selling point for me. The only good camera is the one you actually use.

Well... Got to put the Mavic Pro in the air this evening and I have to say I absolutely love it! I've been waiting since November and I have to say it was worth the wait. I bought the Mavic Pro Fly More Combo with 3 batteries, 4 port battery charger, car charger, extra props, and a bag I'll never use though it is a nice bag. Flying this vs. the Inspire is night and day difference. The Inspire was a relatively easy craft to fly but making fine adjustments with it even with the stick settings set to low would sometimes translate into a rough move. You had to be pretty precise with the controls to get the shot that you wanted which I didn't mind because "flying" comes first and the shot comes second. The Mavic though... It's unbelievably precise (especially in Tripod Mode) and movement with the sticks translates into a very smooth motion with the camera. I only got to fly one battery before the sun started going down but I got a little over 24 mins out of it at a max altitude of 256ft in elevation and 789ft away. I started getting a wind shear warning at elevation that I decided to bring it back down due to the winds being close to 15-20 mph on surface and I've no idea what it was at elevation but wasn't willing to test it (although it did fine with no discernible difference in flight). Brought it back down and flew it completely around the house at 7ft while sitting on the front porch. Tested out the obstacle avoidance system and it works as advertised. Tested it against a tree in the front yard and it stopped about 4ft away and the same test was done with the garage door with the same result. I'll get it out tomorrow and put it though some tests such as active track, terrain follow, point of interest, etc... to see how those functions work but I can't imagine they won't work as advertised.

My recommendation... If you are in the market for a Phantom... Don't bother. Pick up the Mavic Pro. The camera is much better than expected (recorded at 4k without autofocus) and it looked fine. Once I get the settings dialed in, it will be easy to develop in post with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. The small footprint of the drone is worth it's weight in gold and the ease of use is outstanding. As of right now I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I can tell you for certain I would have never tried this move with the Inspire. The beeping you hear in the background is the audible alert for the obstacle avoidance system sounding.

Man, I feel like I am lights years behind you guys!! Received my P3 Standard yesterday. By the time I unboxed and charged it it was dark outside, so looking forward to flying it today when it gets warmer.
