The rear obstacle avoidance would definitely be nice. Mavic doesn't have that. Only front and bottom

Definitely an upgrade. Not enough for me to want to sell my Spark for it right now though.

Speaking of that, how DO you sell one of these? They are registered to the owner, so I wonder how that works.

    Check The Build Thread
If you mean the FAA registration...unless you’re Part 107, the individual is registered and the drones themselves are just marked with the individuals FAA number.

I thought all that registration was deemed illegal.

It is, you don't have to register your drone any longer. The FAA got ruled over being able to control that. You don't need a FAA number.

And I think they're being sued again over failing to comply with the original lawsuit.
    ie. removing registrants information

I'm not referring to FAA registration, I mean registered with DJI. When I first bought the Spark, it would not work until I registered it with them.

In other news, I just found out the Mavic Air has an even better camera than the Mavic Pro.

AND....the Air is the first DJI drone to have 8GB of internal storage, which is a huge deal if you forget your card at home.

The internal storage is cool. 8gb ain't much though but better than none. I definitely won't be upgrading my mavic any time soon but it's definitely a cool new drone for sure. I would probably have bought that over the mavic had it been out a few months ago

Now, to make it even harder on those resisting the Air (like me), the Air has something called APAS, which is part of the obstacle avoidance. Where the Spark and Mavic Pro will only stop, the Air will go around obstacles! This is huge when you are in follow mode. The Air will go around the obstacle and keep following you, where the other 2 will just stop and you have to go back to retrieve them.

And no, I don't work for DJI. ;)

The mavic is supposed to go above obstacles, I think. Like if you're walking up a set of stairs, it should compensate and fly higher

I know with the Spark it will go above things (up to your preset limit) to avoid things when returning to home, but not otherwise, such as in follow mode. From what I just saw, the Mavic Pro is the same way, but I'm not an expert on the Pro, nor do I own one, so it could be wrong info.

EDIT: It looks like you're saying without an obstacle the Pro will go higher or lower based on what it is following. If so, yes, the Spark does that as well.

I’ve been looking into getting a drone and the mavic air seems to be one of the best options for me. The thing that worries me is I heard that it only does wifi and no RC for controls which could limit the distance I think? Can anyone here who has a drone chime in with their thoughts on this?

Distance is over 2 miles in perfect conditions. You'll never need it that far. I've never been semi close to what the phantom distance is, most i've been away from me just testing the distance is around 4,600 feet (almost a mile) that was cutting across the trees halfway through the small city I live in. I don't want to lose a $1,000 piece of equipment nor do I need to ever fly it miles out of site.

The spark has obstacle avoidance (I believe), the Air is claiming a tight avoidance system that will make it go around things and keep moving. My phantom avoids things by stopping or I can set it up to go up and over but that's it. Not sure how good it works but that's what they're claiming on the air.

Good to know! I’ve never piloted a drone before so I didn’t know what to expect. I know when you’re up high distance can sneak up pretty quick but overall it makes sense you don’t wanna fly so far you can’t see the thing incase anything happen.
