Haha... That was actually an auto landing... :)

I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of 3DR, but I'm impressed with the Iris+... Flies pretty well (better than a phantom I'd say), but not a high performance machine.

I have a couple good friends that work for 3DR, so we keep in touch since we work in the same industry. One of them brought me the IRIS+ as an early Xmas gift in a continuing effort to get me to like the Pixhawk...

That's a pretty sweet gift! I'm really looking at the pixhawk. It seems like good value for features. Was there anything you don't like about it? I'd imagine that compared to the multirotors you fly for work it's not as nice.

So far it's an ok controller... It takes a fair amount of tinkering and you can really screw things up if you're not careful

Multi, fixed wing and rotary wing unmanned aircraft along with a few manned aircraft as well... All in a days work

Here's one of our big multis folded up.

Hmm, any recommendations for flight controllers in the pixhawk price range?

There really are a couple that are feature rich... the Pixhawk from 3DR and the Naza from DJI.

Naza is going to be more like apple products... can tinker a little bit with the controller, but for the most part you just fly it.

Pixhawk is more like an android... lots of tinkering available along with lots of advanced feature sets not available on DJI products... There is a lot of "figuring it out" going on with Pixhawk... when it works, it seems to fly really well. The newest version of firmware (3.2) introduces a full kalman navigation filter so it's no longer a simple mixing board like it used to be.

If you don't need advanced features (GPS hold, follow me, etc.), the KK 2.0 board is pretty fantastic and super cheap... it is a little bit sensitive to hard landings and can screw up the accelerometers if you're not careful.

Then there are the more expensive controllers (2-3k) that work really well and have advanced feature sets that mimic true unmanned aircraft.

That's also why these quads are frowned upon, and the FCC is putting in regulations on FPV. Don't be that guy.

Any truth to the article I read stating they're going to be using these to deliver food orders like burritos, pizzas etc ? ?

So.... ordered a DJI Inspire 1 today for work... DJI delayed shipments, so early adopters won't get anything until late December.

I can wait a few more weeks... ;)

I ordered a QAV250 about a week ago, I ordered it in g10 because it was the only one in stock at the time, but by the time I placed the order it was also back ordered. I already got the batteries, charger, and remote. I hope the main thing ships soon though, I got a travel case for it and 10 sets of props... is that too many props? LOL

You can NEVER have too many props :D trust me! Sounds like you're pretty much all set. Did you order the recommended setup on getFPV.com (I assume that's where you ordered it) or did you go with something a bit more custom?

I'm anti-hobby crap used in commercial settings...

The inspire was bought for a specific customer who had certain "requirements..." So... Since we fly for him, the inspire looks to be a good choice for his operation.
