ahh gotcha, interesting idea. I've seen quad guys put fpv gear in a tupperware box and slilcon'd the holes for wires, etc. that worked pretty well.

For a better look, one of the small pelican cases should do the trick as well. Hardest part to solve would be heat dissipation from the video tx, unless you cut a heat sync hole in whatever waterproof case you got and make sure you seal it up good.

yeah, tubberware, and small pelican/plano cases are popular with the rock crawling rc guys who still run brushed motors/escs for low speeds. hard to find a waterproof brushed esc for a decent price.

other ways they waterproof are to put the electronics in a balloon and seal the end with a zip tie around the balloon/wires. a lot of people even like plastidipping electronics. too messy/not serviceable for me, but it works.

camera is still the hold-up though. thus far, it's either silicone the camera very carefully, or I place it in a clear case, like the pelican you posed, and hope the image isn't distorted/deteriorated too badly.

Colin, maybe you can fit one of the small board only type transmitters in the housing of that cam? That would make that package even more complete!

I can definitely look into that with a slightly larger camera. great idea.

definitely won't work on this one though. I took one apart a while ago to fix a bad solder joint, and that entire housing is full. it's a very small camera. the rca plug next to it is a good frame of reference.

1/8 scale truck. building a "trail scouting" truck. so instead of walking a half mile down a trail to see if it's feasible, just to walk back the half mile (potentially a 20 minute ordeal), i'll just FPV drive the truck down it. truck can go a lot faster than I can, and doesn't get tired like I do

oh and never mine about the spectrum question.....

I can get a 6 channel joystick rx and tx on hobbyking for $30, which is cheaper than the spectrum rx.

it's only going into an RC sailboat, so a Chinese cheapo should be just fine.

Phantom 3 announced today... 4k camera, vision positioning system, DJI Pilot app, integrated lightbridge, etc. No more GoPro support.

3DR is also announcing their new aircraft the "Solo" at NAB next week. Will have all the normal 3DR features with Pixhawk2 autopilot as well as integrated video and an iOS app.

Mostly... you'll still get props and gear in the phantom video... the Inspire is rock solid and amazing to fly where my phantom 2s feel like cheap toys now...

Although technically, these are all toys... LOL

I have a question for you...
I have a Ideafly Apollo that I've rigged up a 2 axis brushless gimbal to, has been working well for interior shots and what not. Have FPV stuff to add to it, but with all the weight on there I'm already limited to 7-8minute flight times. Given that its a 400 size quad, another battery would help but I'm not sure how much good it would do given that another battery, along with the fpv stuff will add even more weight. Is it time to go to something bigger? Or should I just squeeze another 2 batteries and FPV stuff on there?

So I finally made the plunge and upgraded from my Syma X1 to a real big boy toy. I purchased a QAV250 knockoff from Banggood

    QAV250 kit- $145
    http://www.banggood.com/QAV250-Carb...ESC-CC3D-p-965217.html?p=OY2106728901201408U4

    A Tx- $70
    http://www.banggood.com/FlySky-FS-i...ransmitter-With-FS-iA6-Receiver-p-922606.html

    FPV goggle setup- $200
    http://www.getfpv.com/fpv/fatshark-teleporter-v3-video-goggles.html

As the kit is a complete set and no where near ARF, does anyone have tips to NOT do, or to do? This will be my first RC build after all.

I do know not to power up the video Tx without the antennae attached.

Any other input would be greatly appreciated!
