I am looking at a new 17 SR5, i read a few posts where people had QC issues with new trucks. How prevalent is this? Any feedback, personal stories you can share? has the issue been addressed? This is surprising to hear.

Don't have any scratches to touch up yet. Hope I don't but it's inevitable.

My main quality control complaint is that people on forums have no idea how statistics work.

People use statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post, some for illumination and some for support!

mostly a 2016 problem according to how much complaining goes on here.

relatively speaking, 2017's were far better, and it appears most '17 owners are in a normal situation. no extreme frequency of issues in the '17's. my '17 is also perfect with 16.5k miles.

2017 far better? Only some 2016 had a cps issue, that was it. Oh and check tran fluid possibly.
Um. What changed from 2016 ?
They are both the same solid truck, 2017 has sliding rear window.

No pics from mine but if you search you will find the thread that talks about this with pics. If you stand at the bumper and look down the sides to the cab look to see if the edge of the bed lines up with the cab evenly on both sides, my bed was offset (to the left) by about 3/4" in relationship to the cab. I bought a T55 Torx bit and fixed it myself. Once I aligned the bed I found that my bumper was now uneven. Some day I'll fix that was well. This is quite common on Tacoma's, my local dealer had 10 on their lot and 9 out of 10 were misaligned which tells me that this is a design problem more than an assembly problem because these trucks came out of both the Texas and Mexico plants.

Only had mine about a week now and I friggin love my rig. First Taco i have owned but to me its a solid truck overall. My friend has a 2015 Off Road and I can say that he is way jealous of mine.

I'm not sure there are any legit stats available one way or the other but the 17s had minimal changes and there are plenty of 17s with leaky lights, misaligned beds, diffs on the recall, shitty transmissions. They were still low on fluid from the factory weren't they?

What issues were addressed in the 17MY? Plugs in the LCAs?

If the 17s were better it was only slightly.
