There was an article posted up on here about the difference between the plants, the Texas plant was highly automated whereas the Mexican plant was mostly manual.

I believe all Manual Trans Tacoma's are made in Texas also.

Money talks. The market says Tacoma holds it's value better that ALL other trucks...probably all vehicles. I suspect negative comments are trolls. Until the resale value starts falling, or you manufacturer's rebates and dealer incentives, you can be sure you're getting the best truck on the market.

This dick measuring over the people with problems and people without issues is gonna result in mass membership casualties if it doesn't end

75% of our reported posts come from the 3rd forum, and they're almost entirely the same pissing matches repeatedly

It's like a cancer to the site and if it doesn't get solved, it'll get cut out

    I'll just leave that here....

Suspecting every negative comment to be a troll is a stretch. There are some bad apples built by Toyota now and then, just like every manufacturer. None of my Toyota's have EVER failed to start or get me somewhere. They have also all retained value well.

That being said, they have also all had idiosyncrasies that I got over, and each has had some expensive problems that were fixed under warranty.

I still like my Toyotas, and will continue to buy them as long as they are the right package of price, size, utility, and capability that I need.

If we continue to believe Toyota produces an infallible vehicle for $30 grand, with all of the comfort and features people want these days, we are going to be let down.

USDM Toyota pickups haven't been built in Japan for 2-3 decades. I'd prefer it as much as the next guy, but it hasn't been the case for a while.

Also, Mexico has auto worker unions too, albeit bad ones. I'm not convinced that the presence of a union could negatively impact build quality, but that's neither here nor there...

Sorry, but this can't be true...

Factory stuff so far. Mud flaps, tow package, weather mats, bed mat.
Agree with pra4sno. Just purchased my first Toyota and I have been buying cars and trucks for 47 years. First truck was a Datsun mini with a MT just in time for the gas crisis.
Some very good points made above I would weigh in on from my perspective:
    1) Bought a new Tacoma because of the unique way it met my feature preferences. 6MT top of the list that came with more other desirable features such as 4 doors, 4wd, a fairly sophisticated suspension, good ride quality and noise control.
    2) Retention of resale value is outstanding. Even more important when you start thinking of a truck you will plan keeping for years after retirement.
    3) in a distant third place I was pleased it was made in Texas.
This site has been very useful since I started visiting it a year ago. It was responsible for my delaying a purchase until the apparent major new model bugs were worked out. Once I jumped in I joined up and use the evaluations here for researching add-on's like a tonneau, bed cover, floor mats, luggage net, HID kit. All complementary to the things I use the truck for daily.
Bottom line is hearing about specific problem histories, sharing diagnoses and what worked or didn't work keeps me coming back here. Once in a while someone says something really funny.
Broadly made negative statements like "turd gen" or continuous bashing add little value but are easy to skip past. But as pra4sno said no one makes a perfect vehicle and my sympathy goes out to those that suffered from poor dealer handling and loss of vehicle use while their trucks were tied up for months. Your feedback allowed me to make sure the new vehicle I purchased was beyond affected ranges.
Seems like if we take a 5-10 year horizon it might be time to start becoming more objective.

I just bumped the article that was in reference to, not sure why the Texas plant could not be more automated than the Mexican plant.

Mine was build in TX by proud texicans, and so far I've replaced the CPS sensor and had loose Diff fasteners posing a potential leak. I still have a recall on these items to be taken care of (maybe) at some future date by stealer.

Out of all 7 new TOYOTA vehicles I've had, non required any repairs or warranty adjustments, and only one had to go into major warranty work due to TC issue after 2 1/2 yrs of service at 50k miles. Every other brand I've had including European & domestics, have had issues either during, before or after warranty expired. These issues were not simple such as loose fasteners or a defective component, but were either poor engineering designs or poor quality materials which resulted in me ditching the brand.

At 25k on the clock, I see nothing that leads me to believe these vehicles have any serious design flaws or quality issues. That said, anything manufactured is subject to isolated quality control issues, but mine is not one of them.

Hope that helps with the OP quest for answers.
    Cheers!

There are a lot of things that could be made in mexico, but they aren't. My wife works in frieght logistics and I am absolutely shocked at the lengths people go to get things manufacturered in China.

Is it really all about saving money? Couldn't things be made Mexico for a similar cost with lower frieght costs?

Point is. China, even with it's bad quality reputation, is light years above other countries, like Mexico, when it comes to education, quality people, infrastructure, organization and low levels of crime.

I read an article that Toyota switching is production away from Mexico and to a new joint MFG facility with Mazda.

They flirted with Mexican production and they got put on the most Unreliable list. If you think they are ignoring these lists you're crazy.
