I have, and they certainly don't help control the costs of the product, whether it's a widget or a Taco. See: US auto bailout.

I used to work 3rd Shift and got a visit in the middle of the night from the Union Boss, he promptly told me I was getting too much work done which was raising expectations of other workers by the Company and told to cut it out! Plus some of us paid extra into a Strike Fund that the Union Leaders decided to waste on Crooked Politicians and Bankrupted the entire Strike Fund program, total waste. Also had to pay the Union some kind of $100 Fee when I quit that job, and the reward they gave me some kind of card that says I left in good standing.

60k miles. Mexico. No major issues. Only a serpentine belt pulley in the first 700 miles, it would squeek and it had a ton of play.

You mean everything you read on TW isn't true?

Just my opinion brother, but it just isn't worth the effort trying to convince somebody else what I know to be true.

Better to let them go their "happy way"....

Factory stuff so far. Mud flaps, tow package, weather mats, bed mat.
Grew up in a steel mill family. Union work rules had definitely gone too far and contributed to massive declines in productivity. After 40 years my Dad lost all his retirement to corporate bankruptcies.

There's another side to every story though. Best summary I've come across is the simple statement: Good companies don't need unions and bad companies deserve them.

Germany is heavily unionized and has managed to maintain much more of its manufacturing base as a desirable career path for its population. Progressive unions seem to work there.

Unions in Germany are not the same as unions here in the US. http://www.aicgs.org/issue/labor-relations-in-the-u-s-and-germany-volkswagen-chattanooga/ There is a huge difference, the top one being that German unions actually want to help their companies be better and more efficient.

To the Union haters. How would you like your employer to treat you like shit, cut your hours and benefits even though they still made several billions in profit last year.

1991 was when production started at the NUMMI plant although some trucks were still built in Japan. If the VIN is 4T its a Fremont truck, JT is Japan built.

My point as summarized by "Progressive". Like everything else across human history there are good and bad examples of how we deal with each other.

agreed, there always seems to be a certain tone to these threads. Kaizen manufacturing processes are extensively used by Toyota plants. As one of the world's most noted Kaizen success stories, pretty confident it truly doesn't matter where your vehicle was assembled or by what work force assembled it...the QC processes would be virtually (or perhaps exactly) the same. My Taco was built in San Antonio, I have had 0 issues after 7 weeks, but I would guess that would b e the case even if it were assembled in Baja. No doubt, a robot or a human could have an issue at a specific plant (for example perhaps the torque on a specific bolt in a specific system), but generally that type of issue would get exposed fairly quickly via those Kaizen standards and would be fixed. There are always exceptions of course, but Kaizen would suggest that the standard deviation between multiple plants for "issues" would be negligible, that is the whole purpose of Kaizen...to have predictable results as long as the process is followed. Cannot imagine that Toyota would ever accept any plant that didn't follow their processes; it has proven effective for them (and for consumers) for many years.
