To be honest I am not really looking at the lights when I am rowing through gears so I can't help you there.

I usually don't go above 4,500K let alone tap the limiter, I hit it from a missed shift in traffic at a light, sort of easier to do with this crap 6 speed tranny on a 6,000 pound truck. It has so much bottom end that I rarely even have to go above 4K to be honest and at that point it is kicking a lot of HP with a max of 407 at the crank. It is also has some mods like ARP head studs, Cometic gaskets, etc.

Just to be safe after the first episode I had my mech do both a borescope and compression check, all cylinders but one were 164PSI dry, #4 was 165 and all were 10 psi higher wet with no leaks. For reference on the 1GRFE, new is 189PSI , 145 is the lowest within normal range.

Does anyone know the location of the engine ground? Doing a big three and it's the last peice of the puzzle. I can believe it's the 12awg wire in the harness alone. Heard me tion once of a cable going straight from block to chassis ground, but can't find it. It's my last wire and I'm losing my mind trying to find it.

Also, I see you mentioned starter and fuse block. Do you recommend those as well? My big three isnt for stereo, but for accessories and an eventual dual battery setup.

    Thanks

I think I found it! There is a 4awg wire thatgoes from the fender ground near battery (batt neg to that ground). From there it goes down (with harness) past alternator and into the block just above the transmission case (see image).

    Can anyone confirm?
If it is, I'll run my big three engine to ground along side this..

That would be the ground you are looking for! It goes from the battery to the Engine block!

Did you guys know that most batteries sold in auto parts stores, Sears, walmart etc. Are almost the same. Nearly ALL car batteries are made by one of three companies. Johnson controlls, Delphi or exide. Read the fine print on your batteries. Bet it says one of those names or a company owned by those. There are other battery companies out there but most batteries are just rebrands for the three big battery companies.

East penn own deka. Deka makes forklift batteries also. Deka forklift batteries are really good. I'd say that's a good choice in my opinion. (The opinion of an atomotive/diesel tech. And now forklift tech by trade)

True, but i think the quality is different. Walmarts $80 batteries compared to like interstate or Odysseys $150-300 batteries is big difference in quality. I've seen many cheap Walmart batteries shit out too early but more higher end or even OEM batteries will keep kicking after sitting for months

My 2012 work truck with its original alternator has been putting out less that 13.5 unloaded for years. I’d replace it but it’s approaching end of life and it’s not mine. It cranks slow Monday morning and won’t start after a 3 day weekend if I don’t run it on the second day. Jump starting is a slow process. Other than that it’s fine. If it belonged to me it would have been replaced long ago.

Something I’ve noticed, newer alternators only put out to about 14.2v, while older ones do 14.7.

Under 13.5V in full OE configuration is actually normal.for these trucks. They charge around 13 volts normally and it is configured in this way for fuel economy reasons.

He's been banned for shady shit. I haven't done it, but I'm sure if you Google "tacoma world 2nd gen big 3 upgrade" you'll get a hit or 2.

He got his alternators from bnrparts, who sell on eBay. I bought mine (200-amp alt) directly from them; also got one for my daughter's 07 Corolla, a 160-amp version. Installed them in 2017 and both are still running well.

Oh d*mn, well good to know, sucks for whoever he screwed over. I was mainly interested in his wiring kits for the upgraded alternator. More than anything I wanted to pick his brain and see what all exactly need's to be upgraded and then potentially make a purchase with him.

Ok, thanks for the info. I was looking at mechman alternators, not sure which direction I'll go yet. I need to research the Rav4 also and see if I can drop the one from my Tacoma into it when I do the upgrade. I've got the towing packing on my truck so that alternator is doing well as of right now but I want to upgrade my inverter to a 1000w and go dual battery as well. Shit's not cheap, that's for sure.

@spider.monkeyy , yes, or you risk damaging the alternator. Then, split power to another fuse cause a 140 amp fuse is the highest rated OEM fuse available for the fuse box.
