A young lady backed up into my truck while I was turning into a parking lot and dented the quarter panel into the fender. The paint is basically undamaged and I was hoping for PDR; however the dents are large and the first place I visited quoted nearly 6K for a quarter panel replacement. Alternatively, depending on insurance, they may also repair/paint the quarter panel.

Anyone have experience with a similar repair (PDR?) and/or possible paint matching for MGM? My insurance is not on the hook for this repair and I'm fine with the QP replacement but am doubtful about the color match.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
Young lady hit you, young lady pays for it. Simple enough. Color match shouldn't be an issue with a good shop.

I don't know if you're mechanically inclined, but I had damage much worse than that on one of my bedsides. I picked up a used bedside in decent condition and had it painted for $1000 all in. After pulling and replacing the bedside myself, you'd never know the difference. If you go to a good paint shop they will make it indistinguishable. Just a note, it has a few more small dents now, but the color is spot on lol.

I'd definitely try the PDR route first. Maybe a new fender flare? I would have guessed $4k to replace and paint.

I am confused, is her insurance covering the repair? If yes then take it to a body shop of your choosing and let them handle it. They work with insurance companies all day everyday and will settle on a repair amount to make your truck whole again.

But for real, their insurance is paying so just take it where you want and be done with it. (I've always recommended going to the factory when it comes to body repairs but your milage may vary. )

Is her insurance paying for the repairs? If so, just take it to a body shop and have them worry about it.

I had something similar happen on my old truck...I had insurance send me a check for their estimated repair cost which was around $5k, bought some used fiberglass bedsides and a tail light for ~$300, and bought longtravel with the rest of it.

Yes, her insurance will cover it. I would be fine if a PDR expert could get it very close to original appearance, but it looks like thats not going to cut it in this case.

Matching paint is a very hard thing to do, especially on older vehicles. The paint shop will do what they call "Blending". They'll over spray the area so it blends in with the rest of the bed and cab of the truck. If they're a good paint/body shop, you won't even know the difference.

I'm not sure if ever dealer has a body shop but the one near me does. Have a dealer do the repairs if you are concerned about a paint match.

do not let them repair that panel, demand a replacement. you are not PDR'ing that panel, with that amount of damage. 30 years in the collision industry. Ski

Thanks Ski. Your expert opinion is very helpful; going to demand a replacement.

no worries, sorry this happened to you. from the pics, the flare is damaged too, color match wont be an issue at a quality shop. the only thing I would be worried about would be damage behind the outer panel but, that will be noted after tear down for replacement. it is a bolt on panel for the most part so, it isnt like a gm, dodge, ford that needs welded on panels. good luck. It's easily PDR fixable. NO CLUE WHAT PDR MEANS OR STANDS FOR.

Insurance pays, so milk as much money as you can from insurance until your truck is perfect.

PDR can fix dents of all sizes. I've worked for major automotive dealers. Paint won't ever match 100% in color or texture, but a good bodyshop person can get you 80%-90% there. The trick is to see what types of paint the body shop uses, see which is closest, and spray a few test panels before settling on color match. MGM has a TON of metallics and lots of different hues. You'd be surprised to see what is mixed to get the end result. Definitely one of my favorite colors though. Take your pick and don't worry or obsess about it. Life goes on.

Looks like a good flatbed candidate to me! If you're bent on keeping the bed, I'd ask a paintless dent repair (PDR) person or two. I don't see any creases or scratches in the pic. Plastic fender trim should be an easy R&R.

I found my PDR guy by wandering the back Toyota lot while my truck was in for warranty/TSB PCM/ECM tune. My father-in-law dented his Audi S4 pretty good, and PDR pulled it out and buffed for $200! Troll the dealer back parking lots, you might find a seat repair and bumper repair guy, too, if you're lucky!

If it all works out, you can get the insurance payout and make smart choices with the balance.

Seriously, not a single it will buff out yet??

That dent really isn’t that bad the way it is. Definitely not 6k. I would write to fix it. I would weld onto the panel and pull it out. Most of it would pop back out.

Bet you can go to harbor freight, get one of those cheap suction dent puller and pull it out. If you get a good enough suction it pops out and a 6k repair goes to 2500
