Okay, so my truck will be paid off in about 3 months. I figure it's time to start the planning for burning that extra money that'll be in my wallet. Given that most of you guys have already done what I'm looking to do, I'm going to post up my plans and you can give me the pros and cons of each. Input is always welcome, and this'll probably turn into a b.s. thread anyways, which I'm super cool with.

    Plans:
    Total Chaos/Camburg uniball uppers
    Fox Shocks w/3" lift
    285 KM2s, if I can find them
Rock Sliders(really want input on who's got what)
    Regear to match larger tires
    Longer axles up front
Deaver rear springs(maybe Icon, not sure just yet).
Extended front sway bar w/quick disconnects(maybe)

This truck is my daily driver, and I do tow a boat with it. So I can't go redonkulous with it.

So- what are you guys running and do you have any input on my plans?

Budget will be flexible, nothing too crazy. Not trying to build a rockhopper/trophy truck. All said and done- probably around $10k(ish), I don't plan on selling it. Simply because I know these trucks will last forever with the proper maintenance and I won't get the money back that I put into it. Use: towing most weekends during the summer to/from the lake and an occasional trip to Bridgeport/camping here and there. I'll still need it to have good road manners, as I like to take road trips from time to time.

Solid plan and congrats on paying it off it’s a great feeling. However I’ve not found that there is any quick disconnects for the swaybar. Since you tow you could get the spacer for it and if you plan a wheeling trip only takes 20min or less to remove it.

For sliders checkout caliraised they are in the DFW area now they look pretty sweet.

Thanks man, it's the first vehicle I've ever made a payment on. Looking forward the bump in my FICO score. :D Yeah, I'm going to check out what they've got at the open house in a couple weeks. Might bring a few bucks just in case.

    Word:cheers:
For your regear I hear great things about tandem off-road or if you wanna diy checkout east coast gear supply they will send you a fully assembled 3rd member and front diff and you send them back your oem ones for the core refund and get a 5 year warranty I believe.

    Congrats on the payoff!

Here is my 2 cents on what you want to do...

    • longer front axle shafts require long travel lower control arms also
    • if you want less maintenance then get a UCA with a sealed balljoint. Uniball is exposed and requires them to be cleaned and re greased frequently.
    • KM2s are decent tires, but they are a little heavy and i felt that after some wear they can spin easily on wet surfaces. Also they are heavier and if you want to keep MPGs then you can go with the tall skinny 255/80/17 tires. Im curious about the Nitto ridge grapplers performance and road noise after some wear....
    • you dont need to regear on 285s unless you have something heavy to tow on the regular, or you just want to have higher RPMs at lower speeds... I have been told that 4.88 are good for automatic tacos, 4.56 if you have a standard....
    • get some sliders with kick outs! You can use the kickout like a step side to get into the bed! also mine have saved me plenty of times in parking lots (cut down light poles... long story) and on trails! Mine also custom and stick out pretty far! They also have a 10 degree up slope. You maybe able to take a picture to a local fabricator and ask if they can make them, may save you some money on shipping and such. Also look into an IFS skid plate!
    • either keep the swaybar or get rid of it entirely. If its going to continue to be your DD and you drive on the highway or take corners fast keep it. If you putt around you will be fine without it.
With all that being said... if you want more ground clearence you need bigger tires, if you want bigger tires then you need a lift. So start with sliders to protect your truck if you actually want to wheel it! You dont need trees or rocks or them to be useful, all it takes is a deep rut or hole and you can get damage! UCAs, suspension lift (this is the time to go long travel if you are going that route), and tires next. See if you need to regear after all this, if not then get you an IFS skid next.

I would like to offer my services, to help you in your effort to remain free of evil.
The best option would be for you to retain my services long term, at a substantial fee.
For most things, the more you pay, the more you get. In this case it'd be the LESS you get.
Just trying to help . . .
