so auto makers want to make so only they can repair your truck. The new ceo of Ford isn’t even hiding it, he wants to model Ford after John Deere:

I’m sure. You know how John Deere fucks over farmers.

I have always embraced technology, and been excited for new developments but man turn after turn technology just becomes a tool of control over people or latch on to your wallet permanently. I know I sound like a rabid tin foil hat guy, and maybe that’s what I’ve become. I’m sick of it. Products are no longer customer focused, design focus isn’t any longer focused on a better product, all about delivering a consistent revenue stream to the mega corp.

ok I’m off the soapbox. Not even an angry person, I’m more just disappointed and disgusted.

We only get a few referedums in Canada, I am jealous of this bill and would love to have the choice in the matter.

I dont see how it will favour the auto makers after the public vote on it.

Most things are non-repairable now. Remove old part install new part.

Yeah the car makers want to “protect” you when they are introducing and designing the tech. If I paid 40k I want to decide who view my info, not have it only accessible by the dealer. They are designing it. Don’t implement the tech if you can secure it such that the car owner is in control.

I was talking about things like brakes. A lot of shop replace rotors instead of turning them for a new finish.

That's because new rotors from rock auto are less than $30 each shipped to my door. They will be cheaper for a shop with a parts account. No way a shop can turn them cheaper than they can replace them.

Turning also reduces the mass of the rotor, which diminishes braking performance.

Cars are going the way if software. You don’t own the software you lease it annually.

Remember when you could buy individual components off Office. Then you had to buy the suite. Now it’s set up for you to rent it.

Auto’s heck one day even your life will be on loan to you.

a combine used start at 500k & goes up

there ae mechanics that cant touch one

to be profitable a good farmer has to do many times over the work decades ago in 1/2 the time

all the ancillary devices + black boxes arent there so much to thwart the user

they are there to maintain performance within parameters

by comparison i can get the same power out of a gas engine with carburetors......distributor .....& other dinosaur equiptment

    yet mpg......emissions......reliability will suffer

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
they just want it so only the dealer can repair it.. not because they want to sell the parts. no they want to total their junks out with repair costs so you go buy another one.
