Tacomas have great traction using 4Hi on the fly as needed when there is snow or partial ice. Lots of thought went into all the traction control systems. It’s designed to be used when it’s slick. Don’t hesitate to use it in mixed conditions. You can use it on straight highways or around town with turns. No need to over think this safety feature. I live in snow country and use 4WD as needed. Stay safe.
