That's really close to what I had in my mind. I like it.

For a very different approach to a sleeping platform, take a look at https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sleeping-platform-dog.308557/#post-7938389 from @sc
    The link to his photos at http://s941.photobucket.com/albums/ad254/phlyphishers/sleeping platform/ is v e r y s l o w to load. But worth it.
I suggest you read the TW thread from beginning to end, for details, suggestions, and improvements. I used his bed-frame idea as a starting point, and made some adjustments of my own, which I added to the thread on page 2.

This is a pretty neat idea, and I'm wondering with the right bed frame if I could use this as a half bed when I'm out alone.

I'd like to be able to sit upright on the bed of the truck inside the camper, while using the other half set up as a bed. This would also give room for a cooler and a bike.

If the cross support on one side nearest the tailgate could fold or swing in, I'd be able to crawl in and sit on the floor of the truck bed while leaving a sleeping platform on the other half. I'm thinking with a center support it would work, and at the very least I might have to reconnect it before sleeping to give it some extra rigidity.

    Any thoughts or ideas?

I've built 3 platforms for my truck. The 1st two were wood. They were heavy, vulnerable to water and broke apart from off roading and my crappy build quality.

The 3rd one I built out of Aluminum with a 3/8" plywood top. It's 65 pounds including the top. The last plywood platform I built out of 3/4" plywood weight 250 pounds with one drawer. The aluminum one is vastly stronger and way lighter.

Here it is in it's current shelf mode.

What the weight on your platform. Most of the ones I see are super super heavy.

I found that company that builds these truck bed carpet kits. I originally thought they shut down but maybe I was mistaken - or they’ve gone back in business.

I do not know the cost of something like this, depending how you value your time and usage may be an option for you. I think they’re kinda cool. Or if you can find a lightly used one even better..

I bought mine lightly used for $200 (after already purchasing wood from Home Depot) which is arguably what it would cost to build a nice DIY setup..
I ended up making garden shelves with the wood purchased from Home Depot haha

I'm also interested in if anyone has installed on top of bed mat or just put it on top of the plastic

steel camping platform with wood siding. you can put the platform down so you can still use your truck to haul stuff or put it up to sleep 2 people/hide gear.
