And of course it depends on what it has on it.. Prerunners with no TRD therefore no locker do not sell well at all around here.

4x4 sticks with V6's sell without trying and usually for a nice premium

4 cylinders do not sell.. even if they are 4x4 for KBB.

because good clean 1st gen's are hella hard to find especially without a million miles on them

And 2nd gen's are a dime a dozen and you CAN get one new..

I looked for about three months and looked in about a 200 mile radius. Most all were over book value, but there were some that weren't. I found the ones that weren't were more beat up. I wanted a really nice one and I paid for it. Over 1K over book. An '03 with 42K miles on it and it looks new other than one scratch. If you find one like that under book then you are lucky.

+1 to that. It's pretty awesome though how much these trucks hold their value, good vehicle investment.

There are some good deals out there. It can be alot of hard work to find one. Last year I bought this truck sight unseen for $5,500.00. Someone I work with bought it for his daughter, then a week later decided he wanted her in a car. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up. Sold it in one day. Truck was spotless. 99 with 112k miles.

Nice truck, but with that many miles it comes up about book value according to the nada.

I am not saying there haven't been great deals, but 3 months and a 200 mile radius is not exactly a narrow search. I live in the North East. A ton of people around here. I bought mine all the way down in Richmond, VA. Could have gone to NYNY in the same amount of time. I overpaid, but how long was I going to wait? A year? I want my truck and I want it now. :D

I just acquired a '03 taco with 28,000 miles from my grandmother. I took it to the dealer to see what I could trade it in for. $17,000!! Bluebook is maybe $13,000. The dealer wanted it real bad.

They are just as hard to find up here. 1st gen- almost impossible to find- for a decent one, 2nd gen- lot easier to find but also cost an arm and a leg.I had an offer on mine from a local Toyota dealer as I was going in to buy some oil filters. He offered anywhere from 25-28 grand for my 4 .5 year old TRD .Mind you, only has 54000 kilometers(32,000 miles) on it. and as the Canadian buck and American greenback are at par this am- that seems pretty substantial. I have no Idea what the blue book or black book value is but its has to be lower than 28 grand. Just my chime in.

Same here this past week...then again we have exactly the same truck now! [unless you don't have TRD]

I talked him down from 8500 to 8000, not much but def an improvement.

After reading this I feel real good about what I paid. Keep looking you will find what you want for the price you want. I got an 06 DC kbb listed it at 21999, my price 18500. It is possible to get a good price.

because the 1st gen is a unique truck in that it's a quality compact truck that one can not buy new these days anymore.

If the 2nd gen was close to 1st gen in dimensions you can bet the 1st gens' street value will be much lower than what it is today.

    stock for now
ill put my input here. i just bought my 00 ext cab v6 4x4 TRD with 130k in pristine condition for 7800. i called the guy the day it was listed and bought it a couple days after. let me just tell you this. it is really hard to find a 1st gen, that meets your criteria. and when you do, you are going to have to pay a pretty penny for it. up here in the north 4x4 1st gen tacos with 100k+ miles go for 10 grand all day every day. if you find one you like, buy it. there is good chance another one similar wont pop up. and they go for over KBB pretty much around the US. the reason they sell for this price is because it is a bullet proof MIDSIZED truck. i could have got a 2nd gen taco but decided not to because they are just not as reliable and they are alot bigger.
