I'm trying to figure out if I actually need a bumper up front. Near as I can figure, there are several benefits:
    1. Looks badass
    2. Recovery points
    3. Improved approach angles, especially in the corners
    4. Good place to put lights

I don't really care about 1,2, and 4. Am I missing any good reasons to spend $500 to $800 and put an extra 100+lbs of mileage robbing weight on the front of my truck?

Consider a tube bumper like in the above pic. Has all the benefits at a much lighter weight than a plate bumper.

Alternatively some compnies offer "hybrid" bumpers. Kind of like a mix between tube and plate units.

If your main concern is approach angle, then a lift/bigger tires will provide some added clearance. But for a light weight option with recovery in mind, we like the Pelfreybilt hidden winch mount.
