I am interested in buying a 22 year old 1995 Tacoma with only 39,000 actual miles for $8,800.

    Questions...

    1. Should I be concerned about the age of rubber and plastic parts that may be brittle or deteriorated?
    2. How often should the vehicle have been driven keep the fluids clean, such as oil, water cooling and fuel system clean?
    3. Is the price fair, or what would be a fair price for a like new Tacoma with 39,000 miles?

Great price! What model? Has it been sitting inside? I would change all the fluids and belts, upper and lower rad hoses and Thermostat. Tires are prolly dry rotted also.

I would change all the fluids tires and such might also need to take the gas take out and replace it and the lines. @Skorfab has a 84 truck that he bought after it sat for years we converted it to propane as not to deal with the fuel lines but fresh fluids and it fired right up and runs. Just be ready to replace a lot of parts on it as they have aged and deteriorated.

Agree with above, a few grand to change out what you need, maybe you can negotiate that price. Or if you can do yourself, maybe $1k. (thinking belts, flush, hoses, water pump, fuel line)

I am curious how you found such an interesting deal?

I was really surprised how well rubber holds in 95 Tacoma I have. All original hoses have no rot or cracks. Bushings still without cracks, even original muffler hanger is still there. The only plastic that shattered was windshield wash fluid container. I had to replace it for the new one about 10 years ago (the new style with fluid level sensor).

I found the truck by searching on a website called SearchTempest.com, which searches all of the craigslist ads in the USA after I enter my zip code and how many miles I want to search from my location. I searched for all ads within 400 miles of my home and I searched the titles only and the ads that included a photo.

You are buying a 22 year old truck, the low miles wouldn't influence the price I'd pay. At that point lots of parts will be worn out regardless of miles. But if the body and paint are in good shape it should bring a premium.

Now I'm looking at a 1995 T100 with 123,00 miles that is clean but needs paint. The T100 has the same(?) v6 engine as the Tacoma. I was also looking at Tundra's but then I found out that they weigh 1,400 pounds more than the Tacoma.

So how well does the T100 with a v6 fare with the Tacos of that era?

    I just recently got a '97 4x4 3rz reg cab with 74k original miles for $2k

I would think low highway miles would be the best scenario:burnrubber:
my truck, however was seldom driven over 40mph, and never opened up, ever.:turtleride:
and I believe it was driven the last 15 years with hairline cracks in the exhaust manifold, and the past 5 years with a blown out cat.:bananadead:

the chassis, frame and suspension are impeccable!:bikewhoops: After everything I read about the rust issues I was nervous, but the under carriage looks like it just rolled off the lot. Seems a shame to cut the IFS off
The hoses are in amazing shape for being 20 years old, I split the end of one or two prying them off the connectors with a pick where they had almost fused to the metal from 20 years of vacuum. But none of them are bad, and they are original.
The body and paint are just OK.

the amount of carbon in all the intake components was horrific.

the manifold gasket was leaking so much carbon the previous owner thought it was an oil leak.
