I'm in the process of welding up an external roll cage and am concerned about flex and cracking welds. I currently have a flat bed with a rollbar and am currently fabbing up sliders. I also plan on welding up a trail bumper.

Ideally I would like to tie my sliders into my rollbar and have supports run from my rollbar, over the roof of the cab, down each side of the windshield, and T off and go into the sliders, and the front bumper.

This may be a silly question but can I do this or does this compromise my suspension. Since I'm only attaching my mounting points to the frame and not the body and should be ok right? The bumper would be considered part of the frame right?

    Pics for reference.

The bed and frame flex independently. If you make it too rigid will it transfer the twisting force elsewhere? And potentially cause weld cracking or tearing?

Nice job on your truck. It's cool to see people make their own stuff rather then buying and bolting on.

I'd exo the cab seperate from the flatbed entirely for the reasons mentioned above. Plus that gives you options if you ever decide to ditch the flatbed.

I really want to tie in the existing rollbar but don't want any issues with cracking. Might have to get creative. I taught myself how to weld/metal fab so I'm still a beginner but am pretty happy with the progress so far. Once you can start working with metal it's easy to get excited and start going a little crazy lol.
