question about external hard drive.

That statement sound like you do the formatting on windows.

If your within XP OS right click on the external & select format, you may get away with a quick format...

No that is incorrect in fat32, you can't have a file larger than 4gb. Fat32 will actually let you utilize your whole 500gbs

ok when i right click on the HD theres no format option

 

i usually select the photos i want in iphoto then cut or copy them... and then paste to folder.

 

This to re format...anything you have on the hd will be erased so make sure to put that stuff already on the hard drive somewhere else.

 

the only thing thats on there is the stuff that was pre-loaded on it when i bought it.... do i need that stuff?

glad it worked out for you. If you have a ps3, you can know hook that hard drive up to it and play tunes or look at pictures through the ps3. You have to have 4 distinct folders on the hard drive. Music, Photos, Videos, Games. They will then show up on your ps3 menu.

 

Sorry I was a bit late. All you had to do was format it through disk utilities. Or, if you ever need to do what I am doing, I use my drive to transfer files between Windows and Mac OS X as well as using it for Time Machine. If you format the drive for Time Machine, it will not let you transfer files on a Windows machine. So if you ever want to, let's say format 250 GB for Windows and 250 for Mac OS X, just allocate 250 when you format it on both machines.

 

yeah i had the same problem with my seagate 1b and my macbook. PC can read and write on the hard drive no problem. But Mac could only read. I downloaded macfuse(made by google or something?) http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/ then i had to download something else i think it was this.. http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/ ever since I installed these two programs on my macbook i have been able to WRITE and READ on the seagate. hope that works
