The flares New Are about $600 and front is about $130 , if you have any friends in the body shop in the street lots of times they get good discounts from their parts suppliers. They have a few people on here that like to swap sport parts for off-road parts, since you're buying the truck at the end it doesn't have to be returned to stock that be a good option as well . They also have one guy on here that wrapped he is in the 3M satin wrap that looked really good, I'm not a fan of plastic dip but different strokes for different folks.

Nothing wrong with upgrading your leased Taco if you plan on putting all stock parts back on at the end of your lease.

OP, thanks for posting this question, as I've been wondering the same thing. Even though I'm currently between Tacomas, my plan is also to get a Sport but add the OR fender flares because I like the contrast in colors. I've always liked the black flares and thought it was weird how the 2nd gen Tacomas only offered them on the cheapest models as if they were something to be ashamed of. For ME, the flares are the only good thing about the OR model. I have no need for crawl control or other OR features since standard 4WD has always served me flawlessly on snowy roads. Not a chance in hell I would take a new truck off roading like some of you guys do, but of course, to each their own.

Seeing that both models cost about the same why not just get an off road? More bang and features for your buck especially if your swapping fenders anywho.

What bang though? As I said, crawl control has no value for regular on road driving, and I prefer the suspension and looks of the Sport, other than the black flares of course. That being said, I don't see myself spending $600 on flares either. Hopefully there are some after market available for less.

Rear locker, crawl control, multi-terrain select, better suspension (the sport and sr5 share the same hitatchi shocks just fyi), all of which whether you use or not come with the off-road which is similarly priced to the sport, as opposed to paying the same for a skewp and rear bumper color matched, since you are switching the fenders and valance out anyways. But whatever works for you.

If you went to a restaurant and ordered your food and the waitress said for the same price I can also bring you platter of shrimp.
The thing is, you are allergic to shrimp, so it would be a waste.
Would you still take the shrimp?

Point being, if its something you will not use why have it?

Resale, because its additional content someone else may want, makes your truck more capable, etc. When you take a sport and switch out things that make it look like an off-road, why not get the off-road to begin with, analogy doesn't work because both are seafood, TRD Sport and Off-road. Its like saying I love the look of this new 3 series BMW and the price is great too, the dealer than says, I can offer you the same 3 series with AWD and premium interior for the same price that looks the same and saying nah I'm good.

    Ok.....

Let's say you are at the store, you go to the beer section which you don't usually do, you think "nah, forget it"so you get some club soda and head home. 2 hours later your wife is bitching at you to take out the trash, why aren't you earning more money etc. Your headache is pounding, and you think to yourself...."God maybe I should have gotten that beer (crawl control)"

Not everyone looks at resale. I am one of those, I buy a vehicle for me, not for the next owner.

So what about the inverse of this? What if someone wanted to do color matched flares and a scoop on their OR? Would you tell them they should have gotten a Sport instead?

That´s easy, jump in the Sport, go for a ride, take some tight corners in that sport tuned suspension, headache goes away.
