    Hi there,

I recently purchased a 2023 TRD pro tacoma and love it. I have put rock sliders, nitto ridge grapplers (265-75-16), and full RCI skids/rear diff skid on the truck. I have taken it wheeling at various off road parks and national parks. I am overall happy with its performance, but would like a little more clearance without replacing the current fox/bilstein system (which is pretty awesome).

I found this on wescott designs website and I am wondering if it could provide the extra ground clearance without sacrificing geometry/performance. Any help would be appreciated as I am kind of new to this whole world of off roading of car modifications.

Wheel spacers might be needed to clear the factory uca's. Doubled check with Wescott Designs.

With all that your going to add, which is quite a bit of weight. I would consider the Westcott, with new front springs. They are made to replace factory/ Fox springs.

We installed a few this year and they ride like trash. It puts the shock in the aggressive dampening stroke for standard driving and rides really firm.

I'd suggest springs, or a really small top hat spacer. No collar.

If ride doesnt cocern you go with westcott.

Last time that Pro was in it sat really nose high and looked like a 200$ leveling kit. I don't care for it.

Keep in mind, a lift isn’t going to provide clearance by lifting the lowest parts,,, the axles. Only larger diameter tires will.
Adding a lift will take those bumpers off the ground, if you’re going up and down extremes angles. But most are really going for looks and saying they’re needing more clearance.

My understanding is that a lift allows more clearance to run bigger tires. Therefore, the bigger tires create more ground clearance.

Thank you all very much for all of the replies! I really appreciate it.

    A few questions:
    1. A couple of you suggested new springs. A the risk of sounding like an idiot, are you referring to the front coils or the rear leaf springs…or both?
    2. I understand that the lift will not increase the ground clearance of the axles/diff. I am hoping that increased clearance will save my skids though! I also realize that more driving experience will save my skids too :) Pics attached. The increased height that the new springs provide will help decrease damage to my skid plates though, right?
    3. I am a little confused about the difference between a top hat spacer and “spacer” lift. Are these the same thing?

    Thanks again!

Top hat spacer extends the length of the coil over, making it sit higher.

Preload collar makes the spring tighter forcing the truck to sit higher.

Westcott uses both, making it sit much higher and expense of ride.

Replacing the coil spring in the front will be the best solution as it will provide lift and handle any extra weight. While retaining proper piston position.

Front lift will barely get the skids any higher, control arm angle doesnt get it much higher. But it does a bit.

    that’s correct, it does.
I’m not the expert here, but it’s my understanding the limiting factor on upsizing tires on the Tacoma is the cab mount. I dunno, I’m only up one tire size :D

Not entirely true. The only tire clearance gained is at ride height. Only true way to clearance is to cut

Your skids are doing their job. Their purpose is to take damage
