Planning a trip through the Rubicon sometime this year. Besides all the armor and recovery tools, what do I need drive train wise? Unfortunately I'm not blessed with the TRD package and have no LSD. Are these a must? Keep in mind I have no extreme off roading experience and would like to see most of the trail. Thnx for the input!

I foresee an arb air locker in the rear of your truck in the future.

Granted I have never been on the Rubicon... But a locker makes such a huuugggeee difference. It can be the difference between slowly and controllably climbing over something or trying to make due with a little too much throttle and breaking something.

    This 100%

I have gotten through stuff in 2hi with the rear locked so much easier than 4wd without the locker. Now you add 4lo and a locker and atrac and its impressive!

When it comes to wheeling where you may have a wheel off the ground a LSD won't do you much good. A true locker is the way to go. My SR5 has a factory limited slip and it's fine for what I use the truck for, mostly on-road and occasional class 6 roads. No tight off-camber stuff. I always wanted to get my FJ40 to the rubicon but I'm clear across the US from it. And it really would have needed at least 1 locker and a 4:1 transfer case to handle it. 3.70 gears and 33's with the stock transfer case made for a horrible crawl ratio.
