    hi,

so im debating if i should change my muffler to give the truck a more louder roar. question is, will changing the muffler decrease your MPG? will it give the truck more power?

    thank you!

No, it will Not give you more power(just more noise), Yes it will decrease your mpg bc you will be stepping on the gas harder just to "hear" the more noise.

Every muffler is going to be and act differently. We can't tell what's going to happen, and where. Likely, it will sound louder (goal) but make more racket (negative). I'd bet you won't see any discernible differences in hp or torque unless you do a full system from the block back, with tune. But if you are looking for some noise, go for it!

I have put 40 series flowmasters on 2 different third gens. It didn't change anything but sound on either.

That being said... It's always my first mod. I hate having a truck that sounds like a moped.

There will soon be people posting about how you can't make these trucks sound good... That's bullshit. I love how these trucks sound with the 40 series. Everyone likes different things... I hate the sound of glass packs... But love the low deep growl i get with my exhaust.

The 40 is definitely hearable inside the cab... But not so bad you can't have a conversion at normal volumes or hear the radio even on low volumes... If you don't want to hear it in the cab they make a delta 40 that's supposedly not at loud.. I don't have 1st hand experience with it though.

Put on the trd intake it's very quiet until you step on it then it has a nice growl.
I drove a taco with just the trd exhaust and it sounded lame in my opinion and makes lame noise at low or high RPMs

I didn't care for the trd exhaust sounds either. My cousin has it. He is thinking about removing it and adding a 40 series.

Leave it. Spend your money on something that actually does something.
Unless . . . . you give a crap sooooo much about something as insignificant as "sound". Then go for it and make yourself happy.

So I'm guessing you haven't done a single thing to your truck for appearance... Like adding trd pro items to your sr5? If sound is insignificant, so are the looks.

I guess all the people updating their speakers are also doing insignificant mods as well...

Some of us want a truck that actually sounds like a truck. Not a moped. Not a prius. To some of us the sound is more significant than the looks.

Just because you don't like something that doesn't mean it's insignificant. It's only insignificant to you. I think the TRD pro grille and rims are ugly... But i don't go jumping on everyone's threads, and post, trying to justify my own likes or dislikes.

I just did a swap to flowmaster 40’s the other day and love it. Definitely helps with a manual trans as I can hear the motor to know when to shift or downshift since the stock exhaust is so damn quiet. It was annoying looking at the rpm gauge all the time. Plus exhaust on the manual sounds so good when you shift.

You can do that if you wish. Just remember it will never sound like a v8, nor an exotic 6. It will just, as you say, be 'more louder'.

No. (and it won't improve it either)

    No.

    You're welcome.

I went to a local exhaust shop here and had them install it. But just had them swap the stock muffler with another single in single out 40 series muffler. Huge difference in sound. Don’t know the model number, they have the mufflers in stock.

Your MPGs should not see a decrease under the same driving conditions with the addition of a performance muffler, you should actually see a minor increase in efficiency. Depending on the type of sound you are looking for, we offer a wide selection of mufflers that could be used with your truck. Feel free to give us a call at 707-544-4761 and we would be more than happy to help find the perfect choice for your truck. Just be sure to mention that you were referred through the forum. :)

Yes. The 40 series are on the loud and aggressive side. 50’s are a little quieter but still noticeable.
