It's hard to tell what it is for sure, but I agree it does seem like they have an SR5 4x4 DC listed at 34.8k. Looks like it has entune, but they don't even advertise a tow package or anything.

I just built a 15' 4x4 Auto DC SR5 in the zip code of the GA dealer on Toyota.com, selected entune plus 2.5k in accessories, and the MSRP is 31.4k. It could just have a gazillion overpriced dealer accessories and options pushing it up that high, but 34.8 is way above Toyota MSRP on a nicely optioned 4x4 DC SR5.

From looking at the actual pics from the PA dealer I can tell that SR5 has:

Bug deflector, upgraded wheels, nav + entune, a bed step, a tool box in the bed, side steps, and either an exhaust tip or full TRD exhaust. Still pretty high though even with all that. You could get a TRD OR or Sport fully optioned for less than 35k if you look further than one or two dealers.

I had my first two dealers tell me they either couldn't go lower than MSRP or only $500 off, and that if I didn't buy it someone else will. Well I took to the phone one weekend and called the next closest four dealers, all within a couple hours of me and had four separate quotes within a couple hours. Most wouldn't deal, but one of them was willing to go a couple grand below MSRP plus throw some accessories in on top of it and without hardly any negotiating.

My point is take to the phone some weekend and get 4 or 5 quotes within a few hours. One of them will be willing to negotiate without to much hassle, especially when you have them on the phone and they can't play their games.

Depends on the market, their inventory and how close to their goals they are. It didn't take much pushing to get mine for $2400 off MSRP

4x4 has nothing to do with markup, only availability which in my previous post I mentioned inventory, same thing. Many dealers in my area aren't even willing to negotiate on a prerunner. Mine had to be pushed a bit and pitted up against another, only a few hours of calling.

I didn't say I got it for 31 out the door. I said I got it for 31 before TTL and with no trade or financing. I paid 33 out the door. MSRP was 33.1, so I got them 2,100 below MSRP, and 100 below MSRP out the door. You should be able to get any variety of Tacoma for MSRP out the door as a decent deal almost anywhere in the country. Many people claim to do better than that, but I only did 100 better.

I bet almost anyone could buy a new 2015 double cab TRD Offroad or Sport for 34k or less out the door, if they were willing to get quotes from at least a half dozen different dealers.

If you can afford it just buy a new one. I have seen dealers marking 2014s with 10k miles for a couple hundred dollars less than a brand new one.

Merc, I just built a 2015 DC TRD OR 4x4 with Tow Package and Entune audio plus on Toyota.com, for an MSRP of 33.8k. Don't let that dealer sell you an SR5 for the same or more. They call them Stealerships on here for a reason.

TTL isn't really relevant to the discussion of purchase price on a Tacoma. Sales tax and title fees vary by state. What matters is the actual price on the truck, before TTL.

I paid 28.5 for my 2014 Access cab in the SR5 trim with 9 miles on the odometer. 4x4 with the V6, and the packages that typically come on an SR5 - convenience package w/ keyless entry, towing pkg, alloys etc. MSRP was 31,405. A double cab shouldn't have been more than maybe 500-600 dollars more going by the invoice price.

I ran into the same issues everybody else has when I was shopping for a "new" vehicle last spring. All the used Tacomas were priced high, and to my surprise were selling before I even got to go take a look at them on the lot. I was primarily looking at the Toyota Certified Used, so that probably increased the price a bit, and decreased the selection - but they were selling all the same, and with the apparently high resell value on the Tacoma and attractive financing options on a new vehicle, it was an easy choice to spend a little more and buy new.

As to why the used Tacomas sell for so much, I've read a few theories. One is that there are people who have crummy credit and don't qualify for financing on a new vehicle, so they are limited to buying used. Another theory I've read is that there is a decent export market for used Tacomas. Something with the tax code placing higher tariffs on export of new vehicles versus used. I don't know how true that last part is, but I've seen that theory floated around a few times.

They had a 2011 dcsb with 30k on it when I boughtmy truck. Sticker was aaround 27k. I got my DCLB prerunner TRD sport with tow and navigation for 29k before TTL. While working out my deal several people came in asking about the used one and wanted to test drive it.

That's my plan too is to wait till the 16s to come out to first of all look at them and also get a better deal potentially on a 15 since they need space.

I'm not sure what part of colorado you're in but from my personal experience and shopping around, it seems like the Denver dealerships are willing to negotiate better prices. No buying experience, just personal observation.

For some reason I thought you were comparing your purchase price to an SR5 being worth 35k, and then figuring you saved 7k based on that.

I guess I didn't read all of your posts correctly. I agree you can save 7k on a Tacoma with 50 or 60k miles.

I did select 4x4 with the 5' bed, and agree it's odd it's not listed in the summary but it's included in the price. I just built another with 4x4 and it's not listed on the summary page, but when I switch to a pre runner the price does drop so it's in there.

Go build one on Toyota.com if you want to see what real MSRP is on any configuration in your zip code, it only takes 5 minutes.

I'm in Ft. Collins. I plan on looking here, Denver, Boulder etc. I definitely plan on playing the various dealerships against each other.

They do hold their value really well!! I sold my 2010 4x4 DCSB Sport with 55k on it a year or so ago for 27k. Just buy new if you can afford it as they hold their value realllllly well.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I waited years for that truck before I came across an amazing deal and paid 23k, made money on that deal :)

This was the issue I was having. My wife and I are frugal and save our money, we don't go out a lot just cause we can get better food that we cook. But when it came time for a vehicle upgrade I was fully ready to buy used but was having no luck finding low miles for reasonable $, all I found was 60k-90k miles for $17-25k. So I looked at new and an access cab 4x4 was $24.5, with this info to my wife she said IRS just ridiculous to get something used(at least for our needs). So we ended up buying a '15 DCSB and paid cash, we got a great deal and paid less then some used trucks. Now we have a new truck w/ warranty and resale value that could pay for another brand new truck!

23k?! That's what my 2011 books for in "very good" condition. Granted, I have 76,000 miles on it.
