Question about testing fuel pressure.

    2002 Taco 2.4 L rwd. Wondering what the procedure for testing fuel pressure is. I can't seem to find a nozzle or whatever. Do I use the end of the fuel rail? I am noob, thanks all.

    Defrost mirrors, compass/temp display rear view mirror, rear wiper on camper shell, trans.cooler.
    Haynes manual #92076 page 4-3. Get a fuel pressure gauge rated to at least 60 PSI that is compatible with Toyota fittings. You will need Banjo fittings as well.
    1. Remove fuel cap to relieve pressure.
    2. Verify battery voltageis 12 volts or more.
    3.Relieve fuel pressure.(there are several locations to attach the fuel pressure gauge depending on engine & model.see illustrations)
    4.Attach fuel pressure gauge to fuel rail with special banjo fittings. Use sealing washers on both sides of fitting.
    5.Wipe off any fuel that has spilled.
    6.Place the vehicle in park or neutral with the brake applied.
    7. on
    OBD l models, bridge the terminals +B and FP of the test connector- see illustration.
    8. On all other models OBD II turn the ignition on (engine not running) measure and compare it to the fuel pressure specifications listed in this chapter.
    9.If pressure is high, check for fuel line restrictions. If line is clear, replace pressure regulator.
    10. If pressure is low pinch the fuel return line. if the pressure goes up, replace the FP regulator.
    if pressure doesn't go up, check fuel feed line, fuel pump & filter.
    11. On OBD I models remove the jumper wire from the service electrical connector or fuel pump connector. NOTE: On OBD II models it's not possible to power the fuel ump using the test connector. On these models start the engine to obtain fuel pressure readings.
    12. Start the engine.
    13. Measure the fuel pressure at idle & compare your reading to the fuel pressure listed in this chapters specifications.
    14.If the pressure is not as specified,check the vacuum sensing hose & fuel pressure regulator.
    15. Stop the engine and verify that fuel PSI remains at 21 PSI or higher for 5 minutes after engine is turned off.
    You might want to buy a repair manual too.

    if FP drops to zero immediately after shutting off engine, what are possible causes?

    96 2.4L 5 lug
    -FP gauge tested with air compressor (good despite being 60yrs old)
    -FP gauge installed with a T pre FPR
    -FP reading 20-21lbs when running
    (Seems low to me)
    -FP drops to zero once engine shut down
